Florida Car Hire

Post by ihadablackdog » Fri May 27, 2022 11:23 pm

Looking into going to Disney in June/July.

Car hire prices seem to have tripled since we last went in 2019!!!!

For June 25-July 9 I'm seeing prices around £800+ for economy car?

Paid less than £300 in 2019!!!!

Is this correct or am I going mad?

It’s the same in the UK unfortunately.

My last hire car was £125/week (or £25/day) in late 2018, the same car from the same place is now £65/day.

I have hired two cars in the last month, one in Italy and the other in Holland - both over £300 for three days.

Martin Lewis stated last week that you should book hire cars early as they are 3 times the price compared to 2019

Remember a Top Gear a few years ago now that showed it was cheaper to buy a second hand car in the US then sell it at the end of your hols. Think you would have to be hiring one for a few weeks rather than days to make that work.

Must be cheaper in Europe just to get taxis or private hire everywhere

Is it a 'hire' price than before?

Got there before 'Nuff Zed' could.
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

Bloody ridiculous prices! Its for 15 days!

In years gone by when I went with my parents, we just got cabs everywhere cos my dad didn't want to drive over there, but I'm happy to drive, and it gives you so much more freedom to come and go as you please.

Will have to just bite the bullet.

Used https://www.discountfloridacarhire.co.uk/ last time, and searching for current dates is £789 with Avis for an economy 4 door....or £1056 with Alamo for a Mustang!

Discovered yesterday I can save approx £300 by collecting the following day from a place near the hotel (think it was Avis) and then return the day before departure (could take it back day of departure but will be less hassle if I do it before).

Coach from airport to hotel is $30 return I think.

This also removes the stress of driving from the airport to hotel.

Had this nightmare recently for a week in New York. Circa £800 for a one week airport-to-airport hire.
Took a cab and cheap train from airport to the town where we were staying, and rented one locally from there for the week for less than £300. Look away from the airports for the best prices.

Have a great trip.

Just booked Italy again for June and using taxis as £400 for 4 days is nuts

In 2018 I rented a hire car in Portugal for 6 euros per day. Simpler times.
