Key Programming....

Post by NornIronCoupe » Wed May 25, 2022 7:55 pm

Last week one of my keys stopped working. Lets call it key 1
Suspecting a low battery and thanks to the Forum I tried leaving it on the toothbrush holder to charge and then successfully reprogrammed it the next day.
Today I tried the other key - and it didnt work (key 2).
Opened the car with the working key (key 1) and then used the other (key 2) to go for a drive thinking maybe a bit of charge in it....
Still didnt work so I reprogrammed key 2 (the holding the buttons in sequence lark)
Then the key 1 stopped working.
I reprogrammed key 1 again and thne key 2 stops working!

Am I doing something daft is it possible to get both keys working (ie able to unlock and lock using the buttons)
Thanks in advance!

There’s a process you need to do, after the first key. So basically you need to link them at the same time, otherwise one key will always ‘drop off’.

You have to do the second key within 30 seconds of the first. If I recall it's hold down the front button and three pushes on the BMW logo. Don't put the second key in the ignition. The doors should lock and unlock when done.

if all else fails
The instructions I received from them, after they refurbed one of my keys, did not re set my key. They need to read this thread.

In hind sight I probably did not need to send my key to them. Just needed a full reset of both keys
