How long do you expect your rear boots to last?

A bit surprised to see 1mm scrubbed off the rears in 1,200 is miles of quite modest driving albeit a 400bhp 35is..

This follows on from about 1.3mm scrubbed off in about 2,000 miles most of which was pottering around.

So if you accept the pemise that the tyres start with 8mm and most manufacturers recommend replacement at 3mm then that’s 5mm

That makes these MP4S look like they will have around a 6,000 mile expectancy?

That’s motorbike levels of tyre wear, i wouldn’t be happy with that

Your estimates are correct. I have Michelin P4 and went through my first set in just over 6k miles, hoping the second set last a little longer now I’ve got used to them. And wear was more pronounced on one side as no LSD…. (Yet)

Funnily enough I checked the M40i other day to see if I’d need tyres before the Pyrenees run. I think I’ll need them before the run at the end of June

Turned 7K last weekend and 1200 miles of them were running the car in. No doughnuts, slides etc just spirited driving

Yeah I think my MPS4S rears lasted significantly less than 10k.

The fronts have now been on for a couple of thousand miles more now and must have at least 4mm left.

Have had many sets of tyres on my ///MR. I would sat typically between 5 to 8k miles. When I first had the car I was lucky to make 2 sets of MPSS or VREDS a year last. I drive like a granny these days, so expect my current MPS4s to last a bit longer I'll settle for 8k.

Somewhat relieved to find I’m not on my own….

I’ve used, not necessarily to being worn out, 7 sets of tyres over 35,000 miles.

So some of have been swapped out as a result of my dabbling with 6 sets of wheels but it seems that for me expecting to get to 9,000 miles is unrealistic.

Given that my 35is is averaging around 27mpg over the last 4,000 miles, to me that doesn’t’ t smack of a very hard driven car.

I don’t do aggressive standing starts etc so can’t particularly blame my style of driving..IMHO

12k miles and counting.
But I drive like a granny and when its going to rain ride stays in the garage.

Never had a set of tyres on either E89 that showed signs of uneven wear..

Never had a set of tyres on either E89 that showed signs of uneven wear..

On a previous E89 I had a very distinct wear on the inner edges of the rear tyres. It was enough to warrant a tyre change before my trip thro Germany.
It was more annoying as the car was being traded in when I got home.

If I had kept the car I would have had the tracking checked as the car never felt planted or stable at high speed - it never gave me confidence.

I’m just about to replace my rear tyres after approx 12k, they are Falken FK510’s and I’m looking at the FK520 to replace them with

I’m just back from a 19 day 3400 mile road trip to the Alps and that has pretty much finished them off.

Left with 3.5mm on then, now down to +2mm ish

I’d certainly get a bit more out of them but another “big” trip in September means they will have to come off before then

I actually thought that is get less life out of them than Michelin’s and that the lower price would even out and perhaps benefit me as a low annual mileage user

My thought was the high predicted life of the Michelins would mean I’d be replacing on age rather than wear

Depends on the mix of driving and the tyre.

The following is based on many years of Michelin Supersport use:

When I was using mine for commuting, I'd get 20k from the rears and 35k from the fronts.
When I added in trackdays and Ring trips (90% commuting) it dropped to 15k rear and 30k fronts.
When I was doing more trackdays than commutes (10% commuting) it dropped to 10k rears and 20k fronts.

The original Continental M3 tyres wore at about twice the rate of the Supersports, and Michelin PS2s were somewhere in-between.

Yeah,my MR gets around 10 to 12k on the Rears,with primarily using Michelin Super sports in rear,and 20k on the Fronts,using either Michelin Supersport,Goodyear Eagle sports ,or once Cinyi's (although they're the softest,and fastest wearing in my experience).
