All the lights and issues

Post by hardan121 » Tue May 17, 2022 6:28 pm

I have a 2007 Z4 roadster 2.5 si . Recently had problems with battery dying , I replaced for a new Bosch battery and this died overnight . Once the new battery was in all the warning lights are on. The speedo doesn’t work but the rev gauage does.the music system works and so does the roof .however no power steering , no abs and no traction control .all the lights are on. I’m terrible at knowing what to do or where to start and need to save some money and want to try do this myself however not many tools or knowledge .any advise ?or am I best biting the bullet and going to a garage

You really need to start by code reading the car with a decent scanner to see what fault codes have been set. Once you have the codes that will give some clues on where to start looking for whats wrong with it.
Handheld scanner like a Creator 310+ is pretty good and around £50 on ebay and amazon.
If you have a laptop then consider BMCables package that gives you BMW INPA diagnostics and NCS Expert for coding plus some other software for use with BMW's. Available on ebay comes with the interface for plugging in to the 16pin OBD2 port on the car and the laptop.

If you don't feel confident with using a scanner yourself, make enquiries to see if there's a good local independent garage nearby. Perhaps they could do a diagnostic check for a reasonable price (or free if you're lucky) and then take it from there.

Update your user details and show where you are based so it appears on the left of your posts, add the model and year of your car as well. Could also put the details in a signature so it shows on your posts. It helps to know just in case someone is nearby to lend a hand with diagnostics etc.

Before you do anything else make sure the cables are properly and tightly connected to the battery terminals. Tighten the nuts with a 10mm socket or spanner.

Peterborough ,Cambridgeshire . I don’t have a code reader .a garage replaced the battery . They said there’s loads of fault codes but they can’t be cleared and it’s showing as there’s no power to anything

Hopefully a member in your area will have a scanner or other diagnostics to scan your car, until that can be done its all guesswork and its no good just throwing parts at the car in the hope it fixes things.

If you have any aftermarket devices fitted I'd try disconnecting them first .

Where are you based? Someone close to you may be able to at least read out your codes.
