HUD for E89
Both the windscreen photos that Dave has put up don't seem to show a film on the screen

That's what I thought too, but when I searched ebay I found the following which lists reflective film in the package.

I guess worth a try without the film... unless Dave 2 Dogs can confirm if the film is needed (or not)?
Cheers!

Spurred on by this article I did a bit of research…the. vast majority ‘need’ this film to work…some seem to not require it..they seem to have more of an extended bezel that aids the projection / optimises the image …

Think the plastic disc is to stop any distortion on the projection…I didn’t like it on the windscreen so went without it , I personally think it’s fine without. Others might not think so . But for what it costs, it’s worth a look, if it’s not for you… send it back

Yep , that’s the one I have… and B21 is correct in my opinion… better without the plastic disc

Mmm
B21…. I have to admit… the one you found DOES look inviting. Mainly because it has a small lip on the device which will stop the light from the ACTUAL box being in your eyeline ….. I might upgrade. I didn’t want to spend that amount at first… but now I know I definitely want one in the car ? THAT might be a better option even if it’s more money

I’ve just ordered something similar to what B21 found.
If it’s ok to use Without the plastic disc I’ll let you know. This is what I just ordered

I have this precise model. 2 of them actually. One in the Z4, and the other in my F10. I don't use the film with either, and they work just fine without it. For the relatively small cost, I'd highly recommend them.acm wrote: ↑Mon Jun 06, 2022 7:20 pmThat's what I thought too, but when I searched ebay I found the following which lists reflective film in the package.

Neither unit sends light into my eyeline either - their placement and angle on the dash, combined with steering wheel position eliminates it entirely. I can sort of see the appeal of the unit B21 shared for that reason, but you're paying a massive premium for what is just a piece of plastic. There's bound to be a more cost effective DIY option out there, or even a forum member with a 3D printer....

I see your point calps perfectly good observation.
As I said above, found one similar to the one B21 highlighted for £23 . If I like it more I’ll keep it , if not, just send it back .

I tried one, stopped working after a minute, wouldn't enter menu, went back for a refund.
Works great with film but from outside looks like a parking ticket stuck to window.

I am waiting for the day Anubiszed drops a video on how to retrofit a BMW HUD from a six series or something.
If anyone can do it, it’s him!

Far too many problems associated with that, but something to look intoDeepseaskateboard wrote: ↑Wed Jun 08, 2022 10:47 am I am waiting for the day Anubiszed drops a video on how to retrofit a BMW HUD from a six series or something.
