Cruise control help

Post by Secondtothird » Fri May 06, 2022 11:17 pm

Hi all, did mention this in a previous thread but it wasn't that prominent so figured it might be worth putting it in one on its own.

Would anyone on the forum be able to offer some help in fitting a cruise control loom I have?

I'm not confident with the wiring, though I appreciate it's described by many on here as a fairly simple task.

Happy to pay, if anyone could help.

Thank you
Owen

Hi, it might help if you say where you’re based.

RBM hampshire would do it I reckon. Its about 1hr and a half away.

Maybe combine it when you need a service, mot or some maintenance work to make the trip worthwhile.

Hi Owen, looking at a previous post you have an E86. Do you know which loom you have - it’s likely to be either an official BMW one or a custom one made by SRHutch on this forum? They are slightly different and, while SRHutch’s fitting instructions are excellent, I have read that the official BMW ones are wrong (or at least subject to interpretation). If you don’t know, post up a pic.

I have fitted a Hutch loom to my e86 and it’s quite easy, there’s no cutting or splicing of wires involved, just routing. Happy to help if our paths cross.

Thanks folks, and yes Zedebee, it's one of SRHutch's looms. My wiring prowess just about extends to basic speakers, but even a fairly simple job like this one is still beyond me :D

Whereabouts are you based?

Many thanks
Owen

Interesting, could you put his instructions on, will be useful if I come across the kit in future :)

I followed a guide on here to do mine it was extremely simple. The hardest part is cutting the plastic bit it slots into. You will need a drill with a small bit and/or a Dremel.

It's was as simple as connecting the loom to the spare wire.

You give me too much credit Sonny :D

I had the courage to delve into wiring on my old Hilux, because its value was next to nothing. When I look at the dashboard of the coupe it's an impenetrable fortress of expensive complexity!

Trust me I was a complete novice when I did mine. Was around 4 years ago so I can't remember how I even did it but I just followed YouTube videos and guides on here.

My passenger side drain is full to the brim. Hopefully nice weather this weekend and I can get a look at the bung and give it a clean

If you have a pre Oct-04 E85 with all the wiring loom present, it’s as easy as pie, but after that there’s a bit more too it.

Not much more to it, just a bit time consuming. The OE retrofit loom made 2 joins behind the LCM (4 crimps to be made) and then a single wire into the engine bay.
