GROM BT3 with DSP

Post by Sadgrandad » Fri May 06, 2022 5:50 pm

Sorry for another post on this subject but I'm a bit perplexed trying to find switched live at amp camlock connector.
Try as I might, with the connector removed from the amp (Lear), I can only find a permanent live which is from a red wire. nothing else gives power when ignition and head unit (Business CD) switched on and engine running.
Switch off and red wire is still live.
My intention was to find the switched live and follow harness round to the central area behind bulkhead, then splice DSP adaptor into it. I'm assuming this'll be a good area for the BT3 unit and DSP adaptor to live?
I'll be very grateful for any info that helps me progress with this, particularly if at a "he really only understands Morris Minors and Mark 1 basic Escorts/electrical/audio dummy level"
TIA

Hi Rod,
Only just noticed your post and you've undoubtably sorted this by now. If not, this extract from my thread on installing Grom BT3 in a DSP equiped Z might help :

"Whilst I had found lots of references to installing Grom in E85, there was only one reference to which cable is switched feed on Amp cabling. Alas pin/cable colour didn’t match my loom. Testing with a meter revealed it to be the red cable, pin 5 on plug to amp. If you need to check, remember that radio needs to be on to test as a separate signal lead is used to turn supply on/off and works by detecting if radio is on."

Full thread is under same how to section on forum - Grom E85 Bluetooth Installation - DSP equiped Cars

GROM BT3 with DSP

Thanks,
I sorted in the end and put the Dsp adaptor in the rear rear console cubby hole, where I also store iPod. I mounted the BT3 unit under the dash/centre console.
Coincidentally, the starter packed up during the process - which was a whole other can of worms! So I learnt a bit about the car’s wiring and how it works 🤣🤣🤣
