2005 non M Z4 wheel and tire fitment

Post by Talhaaziz321 » Fri Apr 29, 2022 6:17 pm

Hey, I was looking into purchasing a set of liquid metal shadow wheels with a 225/45/R18 squared setup. The wheels are 18x8 with a 40mm offset I believe. Z4 is currently completely stock. Anyone know if these wheels would fit? Rub? Stick out too much?

Hello and welcome
Correct size would be 225/40/18 with 8 x 18 ET47, so they’ll stick out a further 7.0mm and be 22.5 mm larger in diameter. I’ll doubt they’ll rub but your speedometer will read slightly slower than previous.

Excuse my ignorance but when you say stick out 7mm do you mean 7mm from the actual fender itself like in the image?

No, not like that :D just 7.0mm further out than standard, if you use the search function for spacers, I’m sure that peeps have fitted 10mm spacers to standard wheels. Are the current wheels original equipment?

I see haha. My current set up are the stock style 104s wrapped in 225/50R16 squared. Pictures of current setup and wheels in question attached.

Standard E85/86 18" wheels like MV2s, 107s, 1083, etc. were staggered with 8J x 18 fronts running 225/40 tyres and 8.5J x 18 rears fitted with 255/35 tyres.

That square set with a 40ET ought to fit just fine. As "sars" said they'll sit 7mm further out at the front, but 3.7mm less at the rear than the OE 8.5J rears.

I see. So my rear tires will sit more in and my front tires will sit more out marginally. I was hoping to have a better stance with this set and have it flush with the fenders. Would I be able to achieve that with spacers in the rear?

You could easily achieve that with spacers on the rear without rubbing. I fitted a set of E89 OE 18" staggered wheels to my previous Coupe that sat 18mm further out on the front and 10mm on the rear than E85/86 wheels and didn't get any rubbing.

Alright I'll see if I can go pick them up today then. Any idea if I'd need to get new wheel bolts to put them on or could I just reuse the old ones?

Original bolts should work fine, but if you buy spacers you need to buy longer bolts to suit. As in 10mm spacer needs 10mm longer bolts, etc.
