Project car for my apprentice
Just spotted this - 2.2, no significant issues called or, other than had been idle for some time and needs a jump start. Some tlc needed to refresh it back to former glory - £1500

Also spotted this option going on ebay. Decent description of its issues which might help inform if it's worth pursuing or not.

The seller is also contactable via Facebook if perhaps you wanted to see if a deal could be done.

Hi, thanks for finding these and letting me know. Had to drive to Gatwick to fetch the missus back today so this is the first chance I've had to look.Calps wrote: ↑Sat Apr 30, 2022 1:34 pm Just spotted this - 2.2, no significant issues called or, other than had been idle for some time and needs a jump start. Stuart (bigwinn) also sent me the Newcastle 2.2 and I've forwarded to Ed's dad. Trouble is they're away this weekend, so no replies yet.
Really do appreciate all the inputs we're getting. I won't let you down, we will do this, but it may take a week or three.

The 2.2 has gone already and sadly the other one is a 4-pot. We're after an M54.

I spent a half hour driving up and down the access road from the M23 and a couple of laps of Horley. Cheaper than parking up while he waited for her cases to materialise!

Evening all,
The search still goes on for the ideal car for 'Ed's Zed'. Looked at a few but it's quite shocking how people omit to mention a few things!
However, I'm finally off on the holiday I booked in 2019 and won't be around until the end of next week.
Sod's Law states that the perfect vehicle will appear as soon as the wheels leave the tarmac.
If anyone does find what they think may be a good proposition: M54, bodily pretty good but in need of mechanical attention, then could you please let Stuart (bigwinn) know as he has very kindly offered to liaise with Ed's dad until I'm back.
Many thanks all.

OK, honest opinions please:
A 2.2i manual, on 122k, obviously been well looked after with recent new rear brakes and various other bits.
Halo headlights which have left the bulb warning light on the dash.
Probably needs vanos, disa, shocks......all the usual suspects.
BUT! Cat D for a smashed headlight and grille.
I realise it wouldn't make top dollar, but the object of this is to teach Edward some mechanics and also how to keep within a budget.
If we recorded everything we did and basically looked to eventually sell it on for enough to stick in Ed's piggy bank do you think it's worth the punt?

You would never get anything to go in Ed’s piggy bank with this car. Cat D is an immediate “half price” item and it’s not even cheap to start with.

I'd agree with what others have said - I can't see a decent return on that one with a Cat D marker.
Hope you manage to find one soon though.

No from me too, with buying the bits, small rust issues and having the Cat D marker you’d have to sell at top money, no history, one key etc personally I don’t see it doing that.
You’ll get the right one soon enough for Ed

It's one at the kind of price I'd pick up if I intended to use it myself for a few years, but not for the young lad to move on.
