Alloy header tank - anyone want in?
guys
my header tank is due replacement soon for preventative reasons , as i work with many shops now days within my remit, ive gained some pretty awesome allies, so im thinking of getting an alloy header tank made to fit the stock location, with all the stock fitments , literally plug and play, maybe add alittle extra capacity and finned for some additional cooling, i also want a sight glass. I know ill probably have to spec around 10 units to make it viable for them to produce.
anyone interested or are you all happy with the stock item ? ( which admittedly has stood the test of time) if no one else is interested ill just get one made? id guess they will cost around £350 which may be too steep for some.
heres a pic with an idea of whats planned. ( from a different car but an illustration of how these look )

Are you looking at producing a prototype for trial fitting? Would like to see some pics of it fitted in the engine bay before I commit but yes I’m interested

awesome guys, i only need a few to make it work.
GT , no prototyping will be done, ill simply be sending in a used header tank, and getting it remade to the same spec ( with some nice upgrades ) , the finish / welds will be first class, nothing less. More importantly it removes a failure point from the system .

M only, or could they make for other models as part of the same buy? I’m guessing not, but no harm in asking…

Alloy header tank - anyone want in?
Afternoon Beedub,
I’m fairly new with my M coupe, what’s the history of failures with the header tank and what are the consequences? (I’ll search the forums in the meantime but always interested in people’s experiences - I intend to keep this car for a very long time so the more I know the better my chances of not effing things up!)
If it’s a reasonable cost and an easy job to replace I could be interested in one.

i cant lie.... they don't fail often, infact I think ive only ever seen one fail they seem like quite a sturdy plastic. BUT, they are getting older now and an alloy piece is pretty much a lifetime part, ill be spec'ing a sight glass, some additional capacity and or cooling fins to the rear and underside, it will be a direct replacement for stock in a crack black finish and still hold the overflow line as per the stock part. As these vehicles are getting older and more difficult / expensive to maintain preventative maintenance is always nice.CeeDee wrote: ↑Mon Apr 25, 2022 4:22 pm Afternoon Beedub,
