Fuel System Treatment

Post by Jim S » Tue Apr 12, 2022 2:34 pm

Has anyone used fuel additive in their G29?
At a recent service, BMW gave me the option to have some added at a cost of £29.00. As my car has very low mileage, I declined the offer.

However, it got me thinking that, perhaps, it might be a good idea to add some to my car. I have seen Redex petrol fuel system cleaner advertised online and it appears to be very similar for less than half the BMW price. Does anyone on here have any experience using this type of product in their car?
Happy motoring :driving:

I tend to think those type of products are snake oil but always use a shot of redex just for the MOT on emissions.

I think good quality fuel is more beneficial

Wow. That's a blast from the past. I didn't know that they still made Redex. I used to use it decades ago :D

You can buy a 2-shot 250ml bottle on Amazon for £4.00. Might be worth a try. :driving:

Shell V power for me, or the equivalent super unleaded. If im correct they have detergents added which does the same job as most fuel system cleaners...

I’ll go with you on this one. Maybe on an old car needing a blast clean?

I'm 99% certain this would be the dealer trying to make a few quid more, but is there not also an argument that if you do very little miles then you're not passing much fuel through the system? Even V-Power doesn't achieve much just sitting in the tank.

Always happy to help if I can.

If the forum helped you, why not help the forum back. Thats the Z4 way!

Super unleaded being E5 (or even ethanol free in certain cases) will “keep” better than E10 standard fuel & potentially cause less damage to the car
