Luckily mine was due at the end of January so it was "only" £600. :D

Bloody hell - my Corsa is £225 so £360 for a 35iS seems pretty reasonable

I too paid the £630 VED also £315 insurance and put £75 of petrol in my Z4M this past week.

So this weekend I am going out cycling as I think I have paid enough in taxes to use the roads. The Z is the second car too.

The UK Government do like to make things fair though:
A 2017 registered 7 litre gas-guzzling, CO2 belching US pick up truck is....................£165
A 2017 registered Fiat 500 is...................£165
Don't you just love 'em?
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

F31 320i. Good car.
E89 20i Now fully dried
Z3 'free litre'. Project and a half. Complicated!
Mazda3 sold
Tatty old R56 Mini Cooper. Money pit!

No, they just keep messing it up!

Any car registered before 1 March 2001 fell into one of two brackets - up to 1,549 or over 1,549cc like those Astons.

Then Road Tax was based on CO2 emissions with Band K, L and M at the top, but all paying the same.

Until Gordon Brown decided in 2009 to punish Bands L and M and retrospectively introduce higher rates to cars registered after 23 March 2006 - so virtually all Z4Ms. :headbang:

Then effective from 1 April 2017 they came up with another idea and charged higher rates for the first 5 years, that were way higher if the car had a list price over £40K.

My sister bought a 2018 Fiat 500 Twin-air last year and has to pay £140 a year - if she had bought one registered before 1 April 2016 Road Tax would have been free. :headbang:

Logic doesn't seem to feature anywhere!

There is plenty of logic behind it. You are just looking from the wrong perspective. The logic is along the lines of,. How much do gov need to raise from road tax over the next 12 months. Then adjust scales accordingly.
