Door Actuator replacement - driver side

Post by supadupa64 » Thu Mar 10, 2022 11:01 pm

1) Remove inside of door.
- see other articles on this, it's not hard.
- take out 5 or 6 screws.
- take pictures of where things are so when you put it back together you can reference your photos.
2) Take off airbag - 3 bolts and unclip electrical piece
3) Loosen or take off bolt under door that guides window down. Just push back the metal piece, 2 or 3 inch wide piece of metal. Long metal bar you'll need to push back to get actuator out and new one in.
4) "Unplug" door mechanic pieces that open closet the door etc.
5) Unscrew actuator lock.
6) Reach inside and pull it out. More like wiggle it out.
7) Now the hard part. Take a break for a sec and look at your new actuator to see where you'll need to sync the keyhole area from the door handle.
8) Hook up line to actuator. If it falls off, that's fine, just make sure it's in after you sync it. Slide in the new actuator lock with your right hand. Put a light inside the door and look through a hole to see what's happening.
9) Use left hand to balance it through lock area on left side of door.
10) Once the lock is in there push it up there while the keyhole extender goes in at the same time.
11) Here's the tricky part. Even if you get it in, it probably won't work correctly because it needs to be turned so the key will work.
12) Put the key in the door from the outside. Hold with left hand.
13) Push actuator in with right hand.
14) While the actuator is going in syncing with the key extender inside the door, turn the key a bit back and forth to sync it in better.
15) Once it's synced you'll know because you'll be able to move the key to lock and unlock the door.
16) Put bolts in
17) Hook up electronics
18) Put it all back together the way you took it off, done.
