Brembo Brake upgrade *Update

Post by D.Bryce » Wed Mar 09, 2022 3:54 pm

Front brake dust seals had burst so was time for an upgraded.

Bought the Freaky Parts kit for e46m3 which includes:
Brand new brembo brake calipers
Hel performance braided lines
Custom made billet mounts
Pads of your choice, I went for pbs pro track.
All mounting hardware
New pins and spring clips.

Hopefully get them fitted next week but for £800 I’m looking forward to seeing how they perform.

Very nice, full kit! Are you doing like me, only changing fronts?
PocketGT: They’re Renault Megane RS.
I’m putting mine on now, had to scrape some material off to fit the CSL-wheels, will post pics later.

PocketGt: as mentioned above these are from the mk3 rs Megane. I believe there is also brackets available for the 966 calipers.

Argenta, can you explain a bit more about removing material ? I have genuine csl wheels but running a spacer. Assuming your issue was clearance to the inside of the wheel ?

Also only doing the fronts but rebuilding the rear calipers with new seals and pistons, braided lines and fluid.

Brembo Brake upgrade

Yeah I checked the depth of the cylinders and there was a lot of aluminium left to grind off, but I'll do some testing before I post results.
Obviously I'll have to bed in my new pads aswell (incl. heat cycles) so that will be the ultimate test. :)

CSL's fit without spacers, std 18" will prob need 3mm spacers.

How did you get on fitting these ? How’s the stopping power ?

Hi, havent even seen the car for over a week, no idea yet. (But I'd be VERY surprised if the stopping power is any different from OEM calipers)

Finally got the kit fitted but due to the calipers being slightly wider you will need a minimum 10mm spacer for clearance. Other than that it’s a straight fit and a great upgrade 👌🏼

This looks like a really nice upgrade and reasonable on the wallet.

Yeh, I’ve went with 12mm as that’s what I had available but 10mm would be perfect 👌🏼

Got mine to fit the CSL's without spacers, the OEM 18" still need 5mm spacers. Very happy!
And they look so much better than the std calipers. Used the same 650deg silver paint.

Anyone else having issues with the HEL brakelines provided by FreakyParts? They're too short to be fitted in the corresponding caliper slot, but at an angle. Doesn't seem great & my left one actually came loose once (low speed luckily). Will see if they can provide 600mm ones instead of these 500mm.

Only minor gripe is some noise when hot, dunno if its the discs or the the caliper getting into some sort of self-frequency... Anyone else noticed this?
