Advice required on tyre sizing please

Post by Pondrew » Wed Mar 02, 2022 5:47 pm

I am looking at buying a set of 666m copies (CM wheels), but am undecided whether to go for 19" OR 20". To help make the decision I want to get prices for tyres for each from my local tyre place, to see the difference in cost.
Is the 'rule of thumb' to go down a profile size for every inch larger diameter? I.E if a 19" should have 35 profile, would a 20" need a 30?
Also is there a 'rule of thumb regarding width of tyre? I.E for a 10.5" (267mm) wheel, would the correct width be 275mm, or 285mm, or what?

Any advice appreciated

generally yes, up the diameter by an inch, drop the profile by 5. as for widths, plenty of charts on line for these things...

this pdf has a good chart for tyre sizes.

https://www.lvvta.org.nz/documents/info ... _Guide.pdf

and something like willtheyfit.com to help calculate widths, offsets, rolling radiuses etc.

I call it a sense of humour, you should try getting one. Amazon probably sell them.

I have a new business venture in mind. Drug dealer. So need the wheels to go with the whole 'thang'.

Being serious (for a moment to please Mr Anal...yst) I am actually looking at getting an F33 440i, but like the M4 comp wheels. That was the reason behind the original enquiry.

Oh nice, replacing the Alpina or is it for the wife?

I was actually considering replacing the wife, but that would be far too expensive (so the lawyer tells me) :D

The Czech Golf is going next week, to be replaced with a Mazda 3.

Looking to consolidate cars TBH. Alp going, E89 also and replacing with the above. I really want an M4 comp vert, but the 440i makes more sense. Looking at options (again) :D

Nope. I'm fully paid up on Amazon Prime and still no sense of humour. Also, if you could buy a sense of humour Putin wouldn't need to be such a stupid c**t.

Willtheyfit.com is useful for calculating diameter and making sure you get the right fit. 20" seems a bit much on a Z4 to me, aesthetically, but go for it if you like it
