Will, you could argue if you can hear her screeching over the engine noise you’re not driving fast enough

Mine stamps her feet as well - Autobahn, roof down, 140mph and I could still hear her!

So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

Now I'm really pissed off. It's happened again; second time within two weeks. WTF is this all about. I'm not going to drive it around back and forth in forward and reverse trying to dislodge the stone and hope nothing gets damaged so I have called BMW assist who are coming out to sort out but I need a solution to stop this happening.

Let's see where this goes.......... :x

The good thing about the Z4 is that you can roll the roof down so you can hear people calling you a w**ker /laughing as you drive past with your screeching metallic wheels.

In all seriousness though, let us know if you get anywhere!

Unfortunately I’d imagine you’ll get as far as anyone else who’s raised this problem………….. nowhere :tumbleweed:

I had it quite a few times on the NC500 but the road surface wasn’t great in parts. If it becomes a regular issue I’ll be either bending the guards back or removing them with a method of reattachment if it needs to go into BMW for anything.

I’ve raised it before (on the other thread I think) there doesn’t appear to be reports of the same issue on the Toyotas so I was thinking about using their part also if it because a thing

As you have checked the underside, probably not this….

Thought I’d blown a tyre at low speed in an Audi. Awful scraping, dragging noise. Got out, to my surprise, the tyres were ok. Looked as best I could, nothing underneath. Pulled out again and the noise changed and eventually stopped. Got home in better light and took another look. Found a what turned out to be a 250mm metal strip poking out of the plastic under tray. Looked like something that would hold a ladder on a van roof rack. Really annoyed about it. Didn’t see this shiny silver bar on the road but going back over dashcam footage, there it was near the side of the road.

Concerned this might have safety implications, took it to a local garage but nothing else damaged. Phew!!!!

They will probably give you an angled 'poker' under warranty.
Maybe write to your MP while you are at it........ :D

May as well write to parliament as BMW on this I'm afraid. Low volume car, limited production run. They won't acknowledge a problem exists, will say they have barely heard of the problem at best, and due to the low volume will do absolutely nothing about it due to R&D costs.

As Argyll Andy says it's a DIY solution.

Aye. They wouldn't do anything about S65 crank hub failures and there were thousands of them. They wouldn't do anything about the 'hot' V8s and melting turbos, they wouldn't do anything about the V10s costing thousands to repair..........the list goes on

A small, thin, tin brake shield hasn't got a cat in hell's chance. :|

If you study the photo below you will see the reason for this problem - poor design of the front MSport brakes heat shield

It's happened to me so many times that I have stopped counting and it always seems that stones are flipped behind the shield at low speeds. Luckily, I have only had to call BMW Assist out twice. All other instances I have managed to dislodge the stone as per BMW instructions. It still annoying and embarrassing though when it does happen.

Well things are moving on. BMW told me to take it to my dealer and they said 'We'll book it in and fit a replacement part'. I didn't quiz them on this as I thought that a replacement part under warranty sounded good but after it gets fitted I shall ask them just exactly what they meant by replacement part.....

Yes, I would be very interested to hear what part they fitted.
