BMW service prices

The X5M needs a major service, 4 years old (only 12k miles but anyway).

I called a couple of dealers (Sytner and Vines) and with the usual BMW membership discount they quote the exact £863.44.

Am I assuming there is a fixed price thing going on here? Previously the service costs between different groups would be hundreds apart.
Current:
911-50 Black - unique spec
X5M - 575 hp of fun in a V8
Abarth 595 Comp.
Golf Clipper - collectors item
Z4 3.0si Black Sapphire
VW ID.3

Previous:
Z4M Silver Grey - non flimper spec (gone to Bing)
Z4 3.0 Toledo

Could be a fixed price, have you tried an indy for a quote?

Yeah, sounds like a fixed price, and fixed BMW cc discount rate of the sane 10 or 20% being applied.

That's more than I thought it would be.
Wow.

What makes it so dear Paul, and is that the Inspection 1, I assume,or have they changed it in recent years?

Still, these twin turbo engines don't have as much different from them as there smaller stablemates do they?
Or do they, that makes it quite expensive apart from the 8 spark plugs)
Assuming Spark plugs if a Major service, but wouldn't have thought they need doing at such low miles,
But still seems dear even allowing for them.

That sounds expensive, but then I don't know what work it would involve.

I'd be getting a quote from a BMW Indy - there are plenty in the South East.

But then my cars are considerably older so I could understand why you might want to keep up a full BMWSH, especially if you have an extended warranty.

I suppose it's the price you pay for 575bhp of fun in a V8.

Yes, Pondy - take note :D

It is age I think now, 4 years means plugs even despite the mileage. Always a weird thing to see when you start the car, 15k till the next service or next month. Every dealer in the south east seemed to have called me as they get the notice from the car. Talk about incognito 8)

Can’t justify an Indy on this age and value of the car, I think it would damage it too much.

Just drove it to NL and back, and I understand why Pondy wants this engine. It is just brutal and very, very enjoyable.

Fuel consumption not so though ….

Craig - they don’t call them inspections anymore. The car calls it a “major service” on the display and in the details it lists plugs and an oil service (and an mot 2 months early …).

Will find something for next month to keep the MOT in April and not bring it forward.

That makes sense.

I expect an Inspection 1 for a Z4M would probably cost that sort of money at a main dealer!

Just enjoy it and keep oil companies solvent. :driving:

There's a time/mileage allowance for services that still keep them within the BMW servicing intervals - you'll probably find that you can delay the service long enough that you hit, or get very close to, the earliest retest date for the MOT

When I phoned BMW to book the X3 in for a service that was due in early November, I said that its MOT was due on 31st Dec and they said they'd just book it in for the beginning of Dec so they could do the MOT at the same time.

Sounds like a lot for a service, but when you consider what you're paying in fuel and for things like tyres when they need replacing, it's not a huge chunk of cash in comparison.

I'm sure that engine is worth it :driving:

Already checked mate; the main reason why I probably won't buy an M6.

As an exercise I phoned a big BMW 'specialist' near me and pretended I needed a 'general' service for a 640 (N55 engined). They quoted around £300.
I then phoned back the next day and pretended I needed the same service for an M6. They quoted around £600 for the same service. Only difference I could see was maybe 1/2 litre more oil and £15 for an extra air filter.

I then questioned why the M6 was double the cost of the 640. They said "it's a more expensive car therefore our labour rates are higher".

It wouldn't surprise me if BMW dealers have a chart of how much the car was new, which is directly comparable to the amount they charge for servicing. Rip-off merchants the lot of 'em. :|

The ridiculous servicing costs are the reason why Aston Martins and the like are worth pennies used.

Could be worse, though. Try £40,000 for a set of brakes for a Bugatti Chiron! :o :o

I reckon Halfords could sort you out with some much cheaper brakes that would be just fine for cruising around Knightsbridge

I doubt they are ULEZ compliant too, so even more money on running costs.
Apparently Bugatti insist all brakes are replaced at maximum of four years regardless of whether needed or not.

I bought the five year, 50,000 mile service inclusive pack on Black Friday for my G29. Cost a little more than a minor service on my old Boxster 718.

You can’t buy service inclusive on an M. I had it on the E70 but could not buy it, I would always get it
