IOS 15.3

Downloaded that last night. Big mistake ...

Normally, the battery of my 12Max shows about 85% after a full day of use, today it was at 30% at 11 am.

Checked the main battery useage - was Mail and Whatsapp background.

What a pain though, unfrotunately there is never a rollback option available.

Apparently after a major update it uses a lot of processing power while indexing and reorganising your data, it should settle down after a few days and the battery life should return to normal

The other battery draining option is if you keep Wifi on. It is constantly searching for a connection in the background. While it may not be a large drain turning it off while not in use does help.

I didn't realise about the indexing, but my WIFI is generally off as I have an unlimited subscription and the 4/5G is a lot quicker than my WIFI

I do hope it settles as for the first time ever, I had to charge the phone during the day whilst normally it is just charging at night

Never have that problem with my Samsung using Android, a full charge takes a few days to run down before recharge.

My wife had an IPhone a couple of years back, needed daily charging for similar use to my Samsung.

Completely normal behaviour - it's Apple's way of 'encouraging' you to bin your out-of-date tech and upgrade to an iPhone 13....

Battery condition is 88% on my 11Pro max (2yrs old) and the upgrade to 15.3 doesn't seem to have had any noticeable detrimental effect.
Having said that, Ive never found the useable battery life particularly good apart from when it was new!

Mrs K's 12Pro max seems to have a better daily battery life - I will install 15.3 on that and report if she complains.

Update:-

The phone was upstated to 15.3 and there’s been noticeable deterioration in battery performance.

She hasn’t complained about it yet

Apple, continuing to champion built-in obsolescence and rip off it's customers by rendering older models obsolete... because they can and because they know the suckers will always fork out for a new model.

Switching to Android from Apple was an easy step to take for me years ago. I already resented overpriced devices and the restrictive OS, even after jailbreaking.

Had 2 friends this week mail me to say they can't whatsapp anymore cos theyre on older iphones.
One is switching to android now. I'm working on convincing the other to do the same.

I also hear/read a lot about iphone users being randomly locked out of their iphones and losing data because Apple decided to stop supporting older phones. What a sh!tshow. That shouldn't be allowed.

Do yourselves a favour. Switch to Android. You know it makes sense.
:poke:  :P

Which flavour of Android? There are millions of them, and none working in the same way with functionality. For us as developers, Android is a right royal pain, we have so many now as the benchmark is Google Pixle - that always works and we develop for that.

Then the Samsung nightmares as they behave completely different, background processes being killed at random etc. At least the development for IOS is consistent on all phones.

As a standard user, Android is probably ok if you work around the various settings that you need

I wouldn't say their are 'millions of flavours', whatever you define a 'flavour' as.
There is a base Android OS as well as individual manufacturer's 'skins' which work over the top of the OS and part of what makes Android unique and appealing is the individuality between brands and the level to which you can customise how your phone looks and functions.
To an app developer that would be inconvenient but to an end-user it's only a feature benefit.
For the die-hard Apple fans who have made the traumatic step  of switching to Android there are even skins that replicate iOS for functionality and appearance!

For anyone who's considering the switch:

Yeah, on all phones that haven't been remotely and randomly bricked by Apple!
