Between 2011 and 2015 four-cylinder 1 Series used the Prince engine developed jointly by BMW and Peugeot-Citroen.
I believe that was for the smaller capacity 1 series the 2.0L were entirely BMW. At least in this case they were jointly developed with BMW unlike Mercedes's case were they put in a Peugeot / Renault engine.

Great. I presume you did get that I was being facetious?
Tata still get the profits which I presume will be helping Indian people to set up more call centres for us to enjoy :D
Tata are very highly respected and Ratan Tata should be one of the richest men in the world and certainly richer than the current richest in South Asia Mukesh Ambani but the Tata group give a lot of their profits to charitable trusts and other good causes which ultimately brings his net worth down.

After getting a 'buy it' price for the Octavia which was full retail, have been looking at all sorts. Came up with this, it only has three doors but has a very mappable 2L petrol engine. I give you the Golf coupe:

All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

F31 320i. Good car.
E89 20i Now fully dried
Z3 'free litre'. Project and a half. Complicated!
Mazda3 sold
Tatty old R56 Mini Cooper. Money pit!

pvr wrote: Fri Dec 31, 2021 2:23 pm My recent experiences are all rentals, generally PSA or Ford and they have all been dismal to drive. It is very rare I get something from VAG or even Skoda, but if I do then I must say the whole experience is so much better.

I suppose you could say the same about the Alpina though, just another frock but it is more than just that.
Thing is are you getting the low end as rentals and yes I would agree a standard golf is better than a standard 308, 208 V Polo then I may go Polo for quality but it is so bland IMHO.

If it is a hot hatch then the 308 will certainly push the Golf but it is far rarer than the VW product.

It is horses for courses and occasionally I see a Golf GTi and think I could live with one of those but 9 times our of 10 I think its boring and common.
Whilst I don't disagree with anything you've said, the reason that I like the Golf is that it does everything well, it may not be the most dynamic, fastest, comfiest or quietest car and indeed a 308 will beat it in some areas, however it's the sum of all the individual parts, the overall package that is unbeatable in that sector.

Oh believe me, this is not a done deal yet. Five doors would be useful as it will be the main family car, but it is not essential (there are only three of us and the dog who hates cars anyways) :D

As doors have been reduced to three, then why not go for a motor bike with side car.
