I changed the Salmon Relays today.
They were dated from 2010.
They do seem to be in good condition. But one can never be sure.
Better €50 than €4000.

Yeah I did mine in October. They looked a little corroded so definitely glad to have replaced them now. Its an essential job for any E89 owner.

Direct from the dealer Stuart, if mail ordering try Sopers in Lincoln, mention the forum for discount. About £30 posted for the pair iirc

When my roof stuck, my obd reader said it had failed.
    How does it know?
When i tested them they worked fine.
I threw them away but later found there is a component across the coil.
Can someone look at an old relay, is it a diode or resistor?

Thanks Andy. I'll take a look. I reckoned on main dealer.

We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…

Just go local dealer, my local said they had dozens in stock. Common part (or must fail a lot!).
Couple of years ago £15 each.

Got to say Neil at Sopers, Lincoln is very helpful and is good at supplying the right parts first time. Of all the dealers I have had to buy from, whatever car make, Sopers are by far the best.
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

    F31 320i. Good car.
    E89 20i Now fully dried
Z3 'free litre'. Project and a half. Complicated!
    Mazda3 sold
Tatty old R56 Mini Cooper. Money pit!

I've just ordered mine from ebay. Coming from Lloyds BMW, Carlisle. There's a YouTube video covering what's involved. Looks really easy to me so I'll be doing it myself.

    Very easy to do.
Just ensure that you have the right Torx driver bit.

    It's dead simple.

The only bit easier was switching the antenna/aerial.
That took all of 20 seconds and 5hrs of research.

Genuinely the easiest thing to do.

Unscrew one thing, unclip old relays, clip new ones in. It's as difficult as unplugging your kettle, then plugging it back in again.

Stuart, you don’t actually need to unscrew anything, there’s a quick release lever. If you push that the whole housing with the relays in it slides out, switch the relays over then slide back in place until it locks home
