3.5 BOOST PIPES

Post by mcbutler » Sat Nov 27, 2021 6:57 pm

Hi all,

How resilient are the 35i/is boost pipes to increased turbo boost when mapped, I am talking MHD stage 2+ which I believe is around 18.5psi max. I see other versions of the N54 in other vehicles reporting split boost pipes but nothiong on the E89.
Any views or knowledge out there ??

3.5 BOOST PIPES

The guys on Spoolstreet in the US reckon that the E89 N54 pipe work is generally in a different class to the stock E90 series pipework.

Obviously 10 ish year old plastics in a very hot engine bay don’t bode well, especially at twice the design pressure.

I guess suck it and see… :tumbleweed:

Me, I’ve ordered a new set of uprated plastics..
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…
A very modified Atacama Yellow 35is

The good news is that if all was working ok, then you increase the boost and things go Pete Tong you’ve then got some pointers..

FWIW there seem to be quite a few 35i running more boost without anecdotal leakage issues..

Z4 chargepipe is fine, no need to change it.
