CDV observation

Hi folks,

Just got the Zed back from TWG, Isp1, brake fluid and sump gasket. The latter we rainchecked as the leak (which is more of a sweat) is still not conclusive.

Whilst chatting on the phone about the possibilty of Rear Main Seal being the issue, clutch and flywheel came up natutally but we will do next year as clutch us still strong. Will asked about CDV and recommended removal (was on my list) as he could see it was in situ still, just wanted to try the car for a year with it in for objectivity's sake - it was s**t lol.

When I picked the car up and drove home yesterday I was astounded at the difference the fluid change had on the driving experience with regards to clutching and moving through gears etc. I actually phoned Will this morning to check if he'd removed the CDV, which he hadn't.

Previously 1st to 2nd was a bit kangarooey when setting off with purpose and I found I was losing momentum between changes. Now everything is very smooth and refined, and car picks up well between gears.

Interesting experience over the last 24hrs, will still do the CDV but good to go through this to appreciate each sort of 'phase' of improvement.

I always think its a good idea to do a little at a time if you can (easier if you DIY), otherwise you change a lot and have no real idea where the benefits (or issues) have come from.
Have to say changing the gearbox oil in my 2.2i 5-speed manual made it much smoother. That still has the CDV fitted too.

I'm guessing that was your car I saw when I collected mine from TWG on Tuesday after it had a 4 wheel alignment - I put it in the "Spotted" thread.

Interesting to know fresh fluid made a big difference to clutch operation. I had the CDV removed from my previous Coupe at the same time as fresh transmission fluid and that improved things no end, especially the 1st/2nd change.
