Oil life reset 2008 BMW Z4 3.0si

Post by BimmerZ » Tue Nov 16, 2021 7:19 pm

Hello all, new to this forum. I changed the oil on my z4 and was trying to reset oil life using videos I found. Only problem is when I press the R/S button for the last time after RESEt is seen flashing, I get END on the screen and I still see 250 miles to next oil service. Was wondering if issue or cannot reset until it sais oil change due. Does not reset. Appreciate your help

Have you followed the procedure outlined in this link?
https://www.reset-service.com/oil-reset ... set-bmw-z4

Note there are different procedures for 2004-5 and 2006-12. It sounds as though you may have been following the procedure for 2004-5.

I was looking at link for 2008 and something tells me that it will not reset unless oil change is due. I replaced my oil 225 miles before due. Either way, I will give it another try.

Resetting the distance-based inspection with S/R button:

Ignition key position ”0” (terminal 15 and terminal R OFF)
Press and hold S/R button
Turn ignition key to position ”1” (terminal R On)

Display: test function

Press button again > 5 seconds (skips test functions)

Display: Service status SIA OILSERVICE or INSPECTION and remaining distance display

The distance-based service is displayed with ”Reset” when the coded minimum consumption quantity of 10 litres of fuel has been used and a reset is possible.

This makes it possible to correct an incorrect sequence of operations (oil service, inspection) as the result of an incorrect reset without having to wait until 1/5 of the consumption value is reached.

The distance-based service is displayed without ”Reset” when the coded minimum consumption quantity has not been reached and no reset is possible.

To perform a ”Reset”, press the button for > 5 seconds.

Display: Service status, ”Reset” flashes for 5 seconds

Briefly press the S/R button during the flashing phase. The reset is performed.

Display: The new status is shown for 5 seconds.

If no reset is required, do not press the S/R button. After flashing 5 times, the old status is displayed for 5 seconds.

After running through oil service or inspection, the status of the periodic service is displayed.
If the periodic service is not coded, End SIA is displayed for 2 seconds

Thanks for the replies, I was able to reset oil once it covered the mileage left on the dashboard for a new oil change. Dealing with a different issue now. Was curious if anyone has changed their oil on a z4 and then start to smell leaks. Checked oil plug and all clean. I use Mobil 1 approved by BMW instead of a Moly for example. Wondering if oil has something to do with it, looks to be. coming from the valve cover gasket but not sure. Didn’t leak before

It may just be a coincidence as oil leaks from the cam-cover gasket and oil filter housing gasket are a common issue on N52 engines.

I can't see why fresh oil would cause a leak.

Good luck getting it sorted.

Put this out of your mind, won't affect anything.

Clean it all up thoroughly, if it isn't thick and black then it is spillage. Leave it a week or so and then it should be a little clearer to see where it's coming from and how bad.
