Exporting the Z to Sweden
Hi all
I moved to Sweden a couple of years ago. For various reasons including having nowhere to keep it, I left the Z4MC in storage. Now I have a garage and plan to export/import it to Sweden.
I’m aware there will be some cost and hassle registering it. And value will be affected (virtually worthless in Sweden) and reduced if brought back to the U.K. at any point (?).
I just plan to keep it and drive it. Any reasons, before I do this in next few weeks) this is a terrible idea apart from the above?
Thanks in advance!

When you love your Z4 and you are really enjoying it, making you smile every time you drive it, get it out from storage and put it on the road in Sweden

Don’t know the rules there, but I took my car from NL to the UK and didn’t register it. I drove it for the maximum allowable time in the UK before selling it in NL.

I'd assume apart from the obvious tyre choices needed over there there'd be no issue at all.Hindy500 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 14, 2021 6:45 am Hi all

I don't see why it would devalue if you brought it back in a few years, UK car, moved around and brought back, no different to being kept in a garage in the UK to me

Thanks everyone. I’m going to enjoy driving out here compared to up and down the A13!

Well we do have some real dreary roads ASWELL.
Feel free to ask anything re sweden if you like, yes a RHD Z4M is worth less but Z4M’s in general are pricier than in UK.

Your car may not be worth much in Sweden but would still retain its value if you sold it in the UK when you were finished with it.
Just ensure you maintain service records and copies of the Swedish equivalent MOT and I don’t see why you would have any issues.
If I was you I would also pay a visit to the Gotland Ring (assuming you’re into that sort of thing).
Happy motoring

As I understand it as an absolute minimum you'd have to change the headlights for LHD versions, possibly also fog light to the opposite side.
Easily done and easily reversed, so why not go for it.

I shipped mine from London to Sydney - shipping including insurance was cheap, but the duty and tax when it landed and registration was rather more expensive. It's one of about a hundred in Australia, so it has a somewhat higher value here than in the UK (even as an imported car), although I plan to keep mine so the value isn't overly important to me. I don't have any particular advice for you, except to get on with it!
Z4MC - heavily fettled for track use
Lotus Exige - sensible daily driver on the mods slippery slope
Westfield SEiW - in hibernation
Modified RS4 Avant - back in Blighty
S2000 GT - gone

Well. It and I are here. Not without drama and considerable expense. Still, if I wanted to save money I really shouldn’t own this car.
Very much looking forward to getting it registered and road legal in Sweden. Thanks for the advice. When I feel able, maybe I’ll share the full story of the journey.

This is a minefield isn’t it. How can it be so hard to establish whether the existing lights can be adjusted or new ones needed? Admittedly, I haven’t gotten my screwdriver out yet but was hoping for a clear answer before reaching for the toolbox.

I’m in GBG and would really appreciate any advice on a knowledgable local garage to get to know!
