Service history gap?

Post by msportpanda » Sat Oct 23, 2021 5:35 pm

Hi all, looking at a couple of Z4Ms and noticed they both have a bit of a gap between the second and third service.

Roughly 20k miles on both vehicles, is this a condition based servicing interval or have both vehicles just been neglected?

One of them also has had 3 services at a Halfords auto centre! Is this a red flag or should it be okay?

Mine as a gap off 20k also, but i was friends with the guy i got it from.he had it serviced yearly just barely ever took the book in for stamping,so a gap in the book does not always mean its been neglected.

I don't think the condition based servicing would allow as many as 20K miles between services for an M engine. The last BMW I used enough to get to the miles before the dates was a 123d and even that only went 18K between services.

But if that was many miles ago you may feel it hasn't done any harm. As for Halfords services if they were only oil services that may be OK, but I wouldn't trust them to do an Inspection Service on an M as it includes checking and adjusting valve clearances using shims if required!

It never ceases to amaze me that buyers of top of the range cars skimp on servicing. :?

Yes agreed. Mine is all BMW and all on time. They should be serviced at least every 2 years even if low miles.
Just had the oil change service done last week and it was £200. An excellent video too with all the measurements of the disks, health of bushes, suspension, oil seals etc etc.
