Hey now! California has happy cows. Their farts smell far nicer than British cows.

Every day is a school day!
Ive had a a couple of E89s over the years and never notice the re circulate button on the steering wheel.

I probably will never ever use it either.

So I bought a 35is with all the toys to play with.

No I didn't know that. I don't really know much about what goes on with my headlights as I cant see them from the drivers seat, I just leave them on auto. I do know tho that I've got one white angel eye and one yellow one. Something I've been meaning to sort out but cant find H8 bulbs in my neck of the woods.

Recirculate is supposed to detect dodgy smells and operate, wonder how that works. Is it just passing or by passing the charcoal filter?
The auto A and manual, anyone ever noticed a difference.

There is an air quality sensor in the engine bay under the scuttle deck, that sends a signal to the heating / cooling ECU which commands recirculating mode if the mode button is on auto.

The steers wheel button manually overrides that system.
We choose to go to on with this endeavour at this time and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard…

The ACU sensor (Stink Sensor) is at the front of the car under the front panel is clipped in front of the radiator, its a small black square box. Inside is a small sensor (FIGARO TGS 822) that detects traffic fumes when it smells fumes it closes the flap to stop fresh air being drawn into the vent system, a small foam sits inside the housing in front of the sensor that acts as a filter. If it fails it sets a code you will see when the car is scanned. A BMW replacement costs approx £76. The sensor inside is a push fit into the body of the sensor unit and can be bought from electronic parts suppliers for circa £17.

The old sensor will most likely be broken when its pulled out of the housing but the replacement simply plugs in just remember which way the old one was fitted in the housing so the pin positions end up in the correct holes.

I think you are maybe referring to an E85?

The OP has an E89..

Recirculate Air Button

Post by Roddy » Sat Nov 20, 2021 7:56 am

While driving today I decided to check that recirculate air button on the wheel, and yes it did work...... it also switched from my Android auto google maps to the BMW standard iDrive menu! Just to make sure I hadn't gone mad, I tried it several times :o

Anyone with the MMI unit installed, try it
