Weighted gear knobs?
What's the story with these? Watched a few videos on YouTube where folk rave about them for the Z saying they make a fair difference to how the gearchange 'feels'. Anyone got one care to comment?
ZHP is a name that crops up, recommendation wise. There are a fair few Z4 gear knobs on eBay but not all of them specify that they are 'weighted'.

Weighted gear knobs?
Zhp feels nicer in the hand for sure and adds a little more weight to the throw action but how much difference it makes is hard to quantify, personally I felt it makes things a little better but couldn't say its a night and day diffence..more like a small improvement..in terms of looks though its a much nicer thing to have in the cabin and as its one of the most touched areas in the car its nice to have a better feeling knob...oo-er missus Cue many more knob jokes
if its got tits or tyres..its trouble

I fully endorse a weighted knob
I had a Buckley which was cracking, despite being a huge ball, and I have a zhp on the 2.5
It seemed to shorten the gear lever height and the weight makes changes seem more assured.
You’ll never go back when you sort your knob and balls

My new knob made a world of difference in more ways than one!
Having a heavier knob is definitely a benefit over having a lighter knob.
Buckley's exquisitely machined knob and handbrake set on mine.

I initially went for an ebay special. A £20 ZHP "replica". It was nothing like the ZHP I have now. It had barely more weight than the standard silver one, the leather was cheap and would have worn away immediately and the 123456R badge was small and at a bit of an angle.
My advice, if you go for ZHP make sure its genuine, you don't want to end up with a fake knob.

Although you may find it cheaper direct from a dealer? (this ebay account is a dealer, but you know what I mean... ebay prices are sometimes inflated).
You want 25117896031 for a 5 speed and 25117896886 for a 6.

Got myself a nice dark (titanium plated) knob from Storm Motorwerks. Should last for ages and from what I’ve been told the feel is totally different. Much more confident and precise, not to mention it’s a lot heavier. Feel free to add any further innuendos as needed; I’m utterly drained of any further inspiration
Four Alfa's and a Ducati later, I've turned to the dark side...
