Painted Centre Console

Post by Street » Wed Oct 20, 2021 4:36 pm

Has anyone painted / wrapped their centre console?
I’m talking about the grey gear change surround and under the handbrake.
Mines got a few scratches and wear marks.
I was looking for ideas on colours and any experience if it looks better (or does age marks = character?)

I swear I’ve seen that happen on here before, also I think you can get warp kits for the interior pieces

Aren’t superchargers warp-kits? :P
Also interested in the paintability of these panels, as I’m stuck with the crème-coloured plastics throughout

What is involved in removing that part, the surround around the gearchange out of interest?

It simply clips out. I start by unclipping the gear change gator. You can use the leather to gently pull one corner.
Then you can get your fingers under the gear change surround and pull out.
The small panel under the handbrake then slides forward then out

Its a game of pulling gently in the right place. Use brute force and you'll snap the odd clip.

Any more than that means removing the full centre console and dissassembling.

Think I'll give mine a carbon wrap as it has a few scratches in it which annoy me!!

I did my steering wheel button surrounds in matt black, with a satin lacquer. Really please with the result. You can use plastdip and a dust coat of lacquer if you want more texture.

I painted mine with Simoniz Tough Black Satin.

Just removed it all and cleaned with brake cleaner before hand, no primer or anything, just straight on.

It came out really well and filled all the ugly scratches. I masked up the roof control buttons and did the bits in front of the gear selector as well.

I painted mine with Matt black spray paint, turned out pretty good. It was a spur of the moment thing whilst I was removing the aluminium dash. It's holding up well seeing as there's no lacquer on it.

I would also love to see pictures of anyone who has painted theirs. Mine is also scratched and I would worry by painting it the finish will just get scratched again...

I'll get some pictures tomorrow. It would probably get scratched again if you put keys etc on it, but I don't so not a problem for me. We al know storage is lacking though...
