Missed this one from last year.
Strangely, I always feel more confident about taking it to vmax with the hardtop on too.

Mine does nearly that in 5th with just 340bhp. I've also done that speed in the e61 M5 with that engine.
I think they need to sort the gearing out to get it over the magic 300kph (or 322kph if they want to see 200mph)

I doubt that was its vmax tbh. It was still climbing when he lifted.
I wouldn’t want to go much faster than that in an e85 roadie tbh, hardtop or not. Getting mine up to 240 down Dottinger was scary enough.

The E86 doesn’t fare much better at such speeds.
This was taken by my passenger seconds before the headlight service hatch decided to request asylum in Germany. The front-end feels slightly floaty at those speeds (250 indicated, 238kph actual speed). Does feel stable until about 220 though.
As for the V10 powered E85: no doubt that it could break the 300kph barrier with the appropriate gearing. It’ll probably feel much more stable though, because like Chris says: you’d need a set of seriously sizeable cojones to get up to those speeds in an E85… With ballast (gratuitous hyphen anyone?) like that on board it shouldn’t be an issue
I’ve once had the pleasure of taking a 458 up to 305 indicated: mental experience. The sensation of a proper V8 screaming away behind you, everything under full load…
Four Alfa's and a Ducati later, I've turned to the dark side...

I took our C63 AMG W204 up to 294kph on the GPS, totally stock and it was still accelerating. No doubt at all it would have hit it's 300kph limiter.
It was then taken to get the throttle deresctricted (only 63% max standard) and it hit 517bhp on the dyno. Never did get to try VMAX afterwards. A monster engine that was still detuned in that state.

Now that’s an engine with insane potential. Still one of the dirtiest engine sounds out there Can only hope it was replaced by something equally mad?abar121 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 2:38 pm I took our C63 AMG W204 up to 294kph on the GPS, totally stock and it was still accelerating. Agree. The first time I did a vmax run in the MC it was fidgetty and scary.Barty wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 12:50 pmThe E86 doesn’t fare much better at such speeds.

After the new suspension and slight rake change it made it so much more stable on the same section of autobahn...and everywhere on the Ring (especially being more comfortable carrying the speed into Schwedenkreuz and through Fuchsröhre).

I really enjoyed that - thanks for posting it.
Those V10s just sound fantastic! I followed an E61 M5 under a railway bridge once and thankfully the driver booted it - I followed it for another couple of miles with my window down even though I wasn't going that way, but then it pulled into a filling station.
I think I need to plan a trip to Germany!

To be honest, I still haven't replaced it. Never found anything to replace that monster 6.2 engine. The only AMG designed motor from the ground up. The current GT-R GT3 race car still has it.Barty wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 2:45 pmNow that’s an engine with insane potential. That engine looks spot on in there.
Don't think Beedub ever took his to Vmax in the end. That would have been an interesting report.
The few times I have taken mine any where near Vmax the front has felt floaty above 160mph, not a pleasant feeling. It would need aero changes to get much faster, with me behind the wheel anyway.

Watching a yellow 911 ruf at Vmax years ago, the sun roof popped out, going for 200mph. Scared me 150 yards away, so Lordy knows what the driver was thinking at the time.Barty wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 12:50 pmThe E86 doesn’t fare much better at such speeds.
