There’s a plus marking on the side of the white oil reservoir. Normally the fluid level should be between the lower and the upper edge the marking. I placed my pump in a 45 deg tilt too and had to top up from the plug in the end of the reservoir, filled about half of the reservoir without adverse effects.
Thanks, that's what I'm needing to do too.
I discovered that this motor has been replaced at some point, and I'm assuming by taking the roof off.
The casing is dated November 06 and the car is May 04.
The pump is as new and even the insulation was new and unmarked.
The hydraulic pipes were taped securely to the very bottom of the casing using thick blue insulation tape, wrapped around about a dozen times. Was a beggar to remove as nothing would budge and I was worried about cutting the pipes while trying to cut the tape.
That's in addition to the miles of tape wound from top to bottom of the entire casing and the thick gloopy sealant between the upper and lower halves.
I suspect that what has happened is, they've fitted a new pump and rebuilt the whole thing without giving any thought to the fluid that was needed to refill the pipes. Luckily for them, just enough fluid remained to operate the roof as the pump sits nearly vertical.
Now I've moved it to an angle in the boot, the fluid is not adequately covering the ports.
It's been an interesting experience and I'm hoping the next one will turn out to be a lot easier.
Wondering why my arm was wet, then discovering it was the blood from my skinned elbow, soaking through my sleeve, was not the highlight of my weekend!
Oh and I still haven't been able to work out why sometime it won't lower with the engine running!
