Convertible top motor dead?

Post by supadupa64 » Sun Oct 17, 2021 10:02 am

I push the open button to open the convertible top and the front top unlatches. So far so good, then it just sits there. I can hear the motor humming or making some sound over my shoulder when I have the button pushed in, but it doesn't go back.

Maybe needs a new motor?

Does it move it you give it a little help, by pushing the roof up gently with your hand.

If so it sounds like low pump pressure which might be fixed with a replacement motor.

Check the bypass hasn't been pulled.

It doesn't. I can move it back with my hand if I want and push it back, but I'm obviously trying to get it to work properly.

I got a motor for it. I've made a couple attempts to try and get to the motor in the vehicle without taking the top off. I've tried to pull it out, but haven't figured out how to get it out yet. It's in there pretty good.

It is pushed in.
Just because the red ring pull is pushed back in does not necessarily mean the plunger in the motor assembly has returned. They have a tendency to stick.
However, seeing your latest post, you're going to need to get that motor out of there regardless.
Loads of info on here on how to do it.
It's not easy but it seems after the first one you do at least know what you're aiming at.
Good luck.

Not sure how anybody gets the motor out without taking off the top. I've watched a few videos basically all doing the same thing. I think the trick is there's one zip tie on the back that seem impossible to get since its not even visible...

If you can hear it running, its not likely to be the motor.
Also if you can push it back freely without having pulled the red hoop, then my money would be on a burst hydraulic line, as it seems you have no pressure or resistance at all.
Either way, you'll still have to get the motor out in order to attach a new hose to the pump
