New E85 owner! (and question) PHOTO NOW ADDED

Post by jumeeno » Sun Oct 17, 2021 8:24 am

Morning all!

I have just put down a deposit on a 2006 roadster and cannot wait to take delivery! The only niggle with the car is the drivers door handle - everything else was exactly as I wanted, hence not being put off by this. To open the drivers door, you have to really pull the handle really rather firmly and I'm told that the cable inside is broken/breaking.

Does anyone have experience of this? Any ideas of whether it's likely to go altogether and maybe more importantly, any ideas around the costs involved in getting a specialist to resolve?

Many thanks :)

New E85 owner! (and a door handle question)

Post by enuff_zed » Sun Oct 17, 2021 8:30 am

Good morning and welcome to the forum.

Firstly I should warn you that there'll be myriad requests for photos of your car.

Stuart (Bigwinn) did a thread on how to repair the stretched cable. That should be your starting point I think.
I'll have a search for it.

Fantastic, thank you very much.

Trust me, once the car has arrived there will be no shortage of photos I am sure! It's in Alpine White so I'm wondering if it's already known, as I get the impression that these aren't too common.

Will go take a look at that thread - thanks again :)

No problems.
I will just add the caveat that if the cable is snapped then it's slightly more work, but plenty on here have done it.
If you do your own work it isn't too difficult. If not then there's a chance, depending on where you are, that someone may be able to assist.

What model, engine, spec, etc, are you getting?

I am so far from being mechanically minded, it's unreal. I've emailed a few companies to get a ballpark of how much they'd charge (I'd imagine labour will be the big ticket, rather than parts). So no urgent rush, just looking to get an idea at this stage.

The car is a 2006 2.5si Sport in Alpine White. I'd never seen one during my on-off search over the past 6 or so months, so when it came up I had to view.

This is super kind - thank you very much. Everyone is so helpful! I'm in Nottingham so have sent a handful of queries to specialists in the local area for their thoughts, so will update you when I hear back and can go from there :)

Sounds like you may have found a much cheaper option.
Just be careful Stuart doesn't try to sell you one of his fleet while you're there.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

It's good to see you should be able to get the door handle sorted fairly painlessly. And you are right, there aren't many white E85s around - loads of white E89s though. I supposed white just came back into fashion!

Anyway we'd love to see some photos once you have collected it.
