Any idea what this is suppose to be attached to. To be fair it looks like a breather pipe of sorts???

Some E89s were allegedly fitted with non AGM batteries which require a vent hence the tube…
Some AGM batteries do have an emergency vent which uses that tube.
Some AGM batteries don’t have a vent, that can be plumbed, so that pipe becomes redundant
