Interior LED's triggering bulb out warning?

Post by Danz4coupe » Fri Oct 15, 2021 8:54 pm

Replaced sidelight and all interior bulbs with led's but may be selling so decided to go back to normal ones on the sidelights to get rid of the bulb warning light on the dash.
Replaced the sidelight bulbs and they're working fine but still have warning light when I turn the lights on. If I leave the car and come back the warning light is off until I turn the lights on then it comes on again. Anyone know if it could be the interior led's triggering it?
Was thinking not as the warning light only comes on when I turn the lights onto the first position (sidelights) or does it only check all bulbs including interior ones when lights are switched on?

Interior LED's triggering bulb out warning?

Not trying to sound a smart-arse, but have you checked you don't actually have a light out?
Did exactly the same thing recently. Fitted all interior LEDs and the light warning came on. Spent ages checking them all until finally I walked round the car and found a sidelight bub out. :headbang:

Checked all the bulbs and none are out. Seems strange it goes off if ignition is turned off and stays off when ignition is turned back on but comes on again when lights are turned on.
When the led sidelight was in it was on permanently.

Are the bulbs the same ones that you had originally removed from the car, or are they a new pair? If they are old or a combination of new and old bulbs, then for all it costs, I would try replacing both bulbs with a new pair. The reason could be that you actually have a very slight difference in electrical power consumption between the two bulbs. The differences can be even worse if you have one bulb of a different brand to the other fitted bulb. One bulb could have a correct electrical tolerance, however the other bulb (even though it still lights up) will have an increased voltage usage, hence why it could trigger a bulb out warning.

Have you got led number plate, as well? Something is throwing the code and if the led are not canbus then their lower resistance throws the code.

As far as I know, interior led's don't need to be Cambus, it's only the exterior ones. It could be a faulty led that is producing incorrect resistance which is bringing on a bulb out warning.

Only leds on the car are in the footwells and in the boot. I'm guessing it maybe the bulbs now just had a look at the packaging from the new ones and they are only 4w and I'm pretty sure the originals are 10w. If anyone can confirm the 10w bit would be much appreciated.

This is the one that was in it that I've reused but the other one was blown and the new ones I got are 4w. Definitely looks like 10w..
