It looks like a mini 7 series from the inside, very similar to my 740 with the same wood in there. I also see the Alpina as the calmer brother of the M, where performance is secondary, the tech not as high but a very comfortable and quick place to be.

Oh, and for the exhaust use the drill with 0 wire wool attachment. Works a treat with no effort

I've been at it half the day with the wire wool. Didn't work, as the two 'main' exhausts have got 'heat tarnished' so have changed their colour internally. Back to plan A, painting all four internally with matt black stove paint.

Careful though, I have seen that done on an X5 and it looked terrible.

Keep at it with the polish on the wire wool and on the drill, I managed to get all of it off

Are they still in good enough condition to keep the tip edges chrome? Or are you going all black?

That's quality wood.

It certainly looks better than what I have in my E90.

Yes I've polished up the outers and the lips, they are OK; it's the insides that are the problem, two are one colour and two are another (I think I may have a bit of OCD) :( If I paint all four inside the same they will be groovy.

Don't be-little your wood, Ian. Your wood is as good as the next man's :D
Actually, you may be able to help; I can't find any way of adjusting the instrument lighting brightness. Is there? :) I can adjust the Idrive brightness but that's all.

On the G29 it can only be adjusted when in dark mode iirc, took me ages to work it out.
Abstinence is fine, in moderation.

To be fair I prefer the wood to the Brushed Aluminium I had in it's predecessor! And it's OK in a 3 Series - not so much in a Z4!

Anyway onto the instrument lights brightness. You need to have the lights on, then press the button on the end of the indicator stalk to get into the OBC settings then scroll through with the "up/down" rocker on the stalk until you get to the right display and adjust using the button.

But as you have i-drive it may be tucked away somewhere else.

Hope you find it anyway.

Thanks Ian. I will give a go. My Idrive is the very first incarnation, I think. It's amazing how the tech moves on so quickly. This is the first car I've had for about 15 years with a manual handbrake :o

You're much more progressive than me Andrew!

I've never had a car that didn't have a manual handbrake, and I definitely don't want one now.

To me that just seems like fixing something that isn't broken.
