Project Aero
Last Wednesday the silver 3.0 project I had moved on to a new home- a nice lad from Sheffield who I am sure will look after it. I loved the £.0 manual and it was a different car altogether to the auto I had.
As it rolled off the drive I'd promised myself that I don't really need a new project as the nights are rolling in, its getting colder and I am getting older. So lets wait until spring. Plus its great to have some space on the drive etc etc etc
On Friday, 4 hours before leaving to go on holiday, the missus said 'a guy in Louth is selling a Z4'. The addiction kicked in and I looked.
15 mins and a phonecall later we agreed a deal and a new project is on the drive.
A 53 plate Sterling Grey 3.0 auto.
First off- its in a right state. Minging dirty doesn't cover the situation. Alloys are nearly past saving, front bumper is salvageable (just) and it needs two new wings because of rust and damage. Inside is a good deep clean, but nothing is broken/not working apart from drivers window.
The good news is:
The engine is strong, drives so well. No bangs or noises that shouldn't be there.
Spec is off the chart- huge list of toys
Hardtop included with blanking plates, and soft top side covers
Aero kit which changes the whole look of the car
Decent service history from Park Lane BMW
Two keys
3 owners
12 months MOT
So, looks like I'm getting older and colder this winter.
I'll post up how it goes!
Cheers
Stuart

Oh wow- that’s in a right state… but that spec: fantastic. The aero kit in particular just looks the business
Four Alfa's and a Ducati later, I've turned to the dark side...

Well its been washed (to see how bad it is) and its 'ok'
a few rust blotches to deal with. underneath is a picture. roof motor u/s
But apart from that I'm happy there is a good base project
And the aero kit is growing on me! As is the mould on the car!
DISA checked- all ok. Front top mounts gone. Autodoc order on its way from Germany!!

Looks like a nice project Stuart.
Bought my own zed as a bit of a project and didn't expect to hold on to it when the list of jobs was completed but 5 years on and it's still with me, albeit languishing under its' Stormforce cover right now.
Take it you have all the usual suspects listed off to check? VCG, ICV, throttlebody, oil filter housing gasket, main seal leak check, 'stat/pump, water ingress.
Looks like those headlights could do with a refurb too. I used the 3M kit and sealed with 3 coats of Spraymax 2K clearcoat. A year on and they look like I did them just yesterday!
Has it thrown up any interesting codes?

ABS sensor NSF which Ive got a new one in garage... a few other aged codes nothing too critical as far as I can see
Headlights on the list- I've got half an autoglym kit to reuse.
Full list of to-do's including VANOS, water pump, suspension, brakes, the usual treatment!
Will be like triggers broom when I've finished it.
Getting into a good rhythm now with the to do list, as Martin points out my downfall is I do them all too quickly, leaving nothing to do and needing a new project!
Still, keeps me out of the missus' way!

If the missus is so keen to have you out of the way that she’s actually scouting Z4s for you, I wonder what she’s up to?

Ahh I’m pleased it ended up on here. You beat me to it by 30 seconds. I sent my second message offering to buy it just as you must have been on the phone. It was up for a song as well!! Well done
