BBS 108 18" Split rims fully refurbished with new tyres

Post by ScoobyR1 » Fri Oct 08, 2021 12:52 pm

Fully refurbished, split and diamond cut before professional rebuild. These were briefly fitted to my car with a view to doing track days hence the Summer tyres, Nankang NS2R which have less than 500 miles on them. I can get better photos on request if you require, I am asking a very reasonable £750 for these.

Maybe people aren't commenting because of the NS2Rs? They'll be great on track and if they were on a crapper condition rim I would buy these off you for track use. But for the majority of people driving on the road they wouldn't touch them, especially heading towards winter.

Just my 2p. GLWS

Ah ok thanks for the comment, on that basis I might save them for sale in the Summer on that basis, But to be honest unless it’s massively sub zero I’ve found the tyres to be pretty reasonable in the wet as long as the ambient temperature isn’t too cold.
Much appreciated feedback

I also think the price is high. Their is a guy who does a lot of wheels on Facebook, you can get a set fully refurbed with tyres at around £450-500. Appreciate yours are diamond cut, but I imagine most people don't want to pay the extra £250-£300 for diamond cut (which is basically silver and brings other problems along with it in terms of longevity). Just my thoughts obviously.

Wheels look great.
But... From my experience its always difficult selling wheels with tyres, as tyres are a very personal choice.
If you sell them with quality branded tyres, you'll out price half of your audience. If you sell them with budget tyres, you'll lose the other half!
People also seem afraid to remove tyres from newly refurbished wheels in the fear that the tyre fitter will damage them, so I always found its best to sell the wheels bare, (maybe with the option of tyres supplied or fitted as an extra option)

They look great, but agree the price is a little challenging. Appreciate you are trying to recover on the tyres but it might be worth trying to sell the tyres and wheels separately? Also agree that diamond cut put me off (certainly at a premium) as it is just so hard to maintain. Just my thoughts.

There are also a lot of them around, both for sale and on cars. 108s look great on a roadster but they are not exactly exclusive. You will probably get more interest in the Spring when the whole roadster market picks up and people are looking to freshen up their cars.

OK, a bit of feedback then. I had decent 108s on my previous Coupe but sold them while they were still in decent condition because they always end up with lifted lacquer around the bolt heads due to corrosion and a proper refurb isn't cheap!

But as I now have an MC I was basically just curious.

They look great although I wouldn't have gone for Diamond cut finish, but that's just my preference. I wouldn't want Nankang tyres either, but that's also jusy my preference.

GLWTS.

Thanks for all the feeback guys, was starting to think that I had NO audience. In response to the issue around the corrosion leeching in behind the bolts I've tried to minimise the likliehood, the bolts are threadlocked and coated with a very light grease. I only ever use these in Summer as a result but as the refurb was done to a very high standard they should be good for at least 3 if not longer if looked after properly.

As for the tyres I could put on a set of RS3's I have currently on the car, all with similar tread life if this swung it but Tbh Nankang don't exactly conjur up "quality" in my mind as tyre manufacturers go but I have to say I have been impressed with the dry weather grip levels. They weren't budget either £450 is cheap when compared to Michelin PS4's but I'd say bang for buck they work well.
Once again many thanks

I have bought and sold a few sets of 108's in the past. I agree with Number5, you may get this total if you sell the rims and tyres seperately, but together you are selling to a very limited market. Most people on here have found a tyre they like and trust, they may love the rims and be willing to pay top dollar, but the tyres are putting them off?

They are a beautiful set of rims, and I think you should shift them quite easily at any time of the year. GLWTS

Thanks for that, I may take them off sale for the time being and swap over the tyres as I won't be using the car over the winter

So you wouldn't entertain selling the wheels without tyres then?
Guess it depends on how much you need the cash, but I suspect they'd go quite quick.
Someone may buy them now for a future project, or to fit in the spring.
The tyres may then appeal to a track day enthusiast?
