Glovebox Removal

Post by Cir123 » Thu Oct 07, 2021 5:41 pm

I got an 07 Z4 (E85) and I'm currently attempting to remove the glovebox to get full access to the fusebox. I have found some sources but the car in the sources might be a different model or year to mine and doesn't help me. Anyone have a link or pdf?

Never tinkered on a post facelift, but does unhooking the tether let the glovebox open all the way down, like on pre facelifts?

They are the same so if it has a tether it’s been messed with.

Not necessarily, models with passenger knee airbags (US) have a different glove box in realoem. Some images here: https://www.pelicanparts.com/techarticl ... cement.htm

Glovebox Removal

Post by Zulu4 » Thu Oct 21, 2021 6:11 pm

My glovebox "fell" off one of its hinges the other day. While fixing it I realised that there was a design change at some point such that the later gloveboxes do not simply pull off the hinges like in the pelican parts guide.
Instead, the pivot "dowels" of the hinge can be moved in or out to slot into the glovebox lid.

Here is a photo of mine with one dowel pushed in and one out:

I managed to put the glovebox in place and use a small screwdriver to push the dowel into the hinge.

I.e. if you wanted to remove the glovebox, don't pull on it or you would snap the dowels. You need to fully remove the outer plastic glovebox housing then push the dowels in from behind.
