2006 2.5 si battery and / or electric issue.

Post by gdsandy » Thu Oct 07, 2021 2:14 pm

My battery has been flat a few times when the car is left. It starts quickly with a push or sometimes needs a jump.
Last night, after the car had been driven a coupe of times in the day and so should have plenty of charge, it tried to turn over and then did the click click click thing with the lights flashing when it clicked.
Push start got it going but while turning, the lights went dim and the dashboard went dark, no lights. Jump started, 5 minute drive and stopped engine, restarted like a dream. This morning, started like a dream.
Any suggestions as to the cause gratefully received.

How old is your battery?

If it’s been flat a few times I’d get it properly tested as they can be weakened by this, the issues you’re experiencing could be caused by under voltage conditions-these cars are sensitive to battery health.

You might have a dodgy alternator or a dodgy connection to it. Whatever, the battery doesn’t seem to be charging properly.

Sounds like the Alternator is not putting out enough voltage to charge the battery best put a voltmeter on the battery terminals with the engine running and see if its getting a charge voltage, you should see at least 14volts with engine running, anything less would indicate the alternator is bad, it may be just the regulator pack on the back of the alternator that has failed, you can buy a replacement pack on its own rather that a complete new alternator. If the bearings in yours are still quiet then pack replacement will be the way to go. If the car is high mileage and you are keeping it then long term fit a complete replacement.
