Decided to play around with the MMI MOST box start up screen that can no longer be changed in the latest release and has the Mr 12 Volt splash screen.

So uploaded a 1280*480 splash screen of my own and also replaced the Mr 12 Volt Icon in the apps screen with a tasteful BMW logo..

Will start buttoning up the interior steadily now..
Have to say,That looks smart

So after a few days of steadily working through the 2nd order issues caused by the new woofers, the MMI box, the carbon fibre trim and the front and rear car cams we are there ..

Had an issue where the Garmin USB plug was DOA…had to pop the centre console to use a who-flung-dung no brand usb 12v plug to get power to the cameras..

Bit of vacuuming after all the crap fell out of the cabin filter..fresh interior mats..not quite as good as I’d hoped for but heh ho..the same company did a great job on the Volvo but these just weren’t as good..

One of the c/f trims for the light switch wasn’t fully seated so a night on the bench with some wood clamps and some 2 pack epoxy glue fixed that..

MMI box seems stable ..

The mic sitting inside the trim cover over the steering shaft seems a bit deaf..I have to shout…

I’ll need to code out the BMW standard audio assist button so it calls Siri plus hook up the car cams to each other…the rear Garmin Mini 2 gets speed and location data from the front Garmin car cam..

The woofers needed the inside of the footwell trims cutting back due to their protruding mounted position..

A few videos on YouTube to try and give more of a perspective on the work..

The pictures don't do justice to the carbon fibre trims. Saw them last week at Peters place and they are stunning.

Yep, it’s very difficult to capture the true beauty of the carbon fibre trims on camera unless you are a pro photographer with all the correct equipment.

So a debug day…ran the Bimmergeeks Protool error log to find about 15+ errors related to climate control…. :headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

A Google revealed similar issue which turned out to be incorrectly seated multi connector on the control panel…

Heart sinks, but actually found that now I know what I’m doing managed to get the centre trim out without massive demolition of lots of other trim..and lo..perfectly locked connector ..but not fully seated…bingo..

Ran error check..no errors..

Put trim back in place …ran error check..gps aerial issue.. :headbang: :headbang:

Turns out when pulling the trim out I dislodged the GPS aerial on the back of the idrive unit… :headbang: :headbang:

Refitted GPS aerial ..ran error check….now no lights on DCT shift lever :headbang: :headbang:

I think this was caused by pulling the DCT gear lever out and disconnecting it whilst power applied..

Used Protool to reflash stock ECU code for said device …lights back…no errors

Went for brief drive (my first in 5 months and second only time driving since my eye op)….filled up with Shell 98 and drove home..

Noticed that the playback on my super duper car play wasn’t sounding sweeet…stopped, messed around to confirm crap sound..heart sinks :headbang: :headbang:

Thought maybe I’d damaged my super expensive new speakers…drive back on much reduced volume..

Restarting audio though both CarPlay and direct via USB to my onboard iPhone 5 SE that I use as an iPod showed sound was good again..

Suspect that the stock 676 amp that is still in place was overheating and shutting down as a result of trying to hard to drive the new speakers..

Just get round now to fitting the final sub woofers and my new Audiotec Fischer Match 10 DSP/amp.. :tumbleweed:

Git back and rechecked the error log..no errors..happy bunny

Clip from the new Garmin 2 Mini ..works well…

I think it will be even better when properly mounted with less gap between camera and roll hoops and gauze..

So spent a day tweaking the dash cams settings then updated and played around with the MHD and xHP app settings..

19 bar clutch pressures should hold the DCT clutches together when the extra booooossttttt comes in..

Messed around with rpm shifts in comfort and sports mode…will need to be matched with the new dyno curves of the new turbos once the new maps have been tweaked..

Will now do some 3rd gear pulls to get some baseline data ready for getting a base tune when the hybrid turbos and uprated plumbing.

My tame tuner for my upcoming TTE500 turbo upgrade requested a health check of the current engine and its systems prior to applying a custom tune for the new configuration.

So for those not au fait with this I thought I’d show a sample..

You can go to my website to see and play directly with the two logs I did today..

https://www.spoolstreet.com/graphs/z4-e ... zoom=-1,86

So the technique is to switch on MHD data logging, in my case using an iPad and a MHD wireless OBD adapter..saves lots of wires in the cabin.

Find a quiet piece of road..start rolling in 3rd gear in sport mode…then floor it..

I have to say on my private test track it’s quite challenging to keep calm until it boots in to 4th near the redline..

Pictures show various static alternative sets of data plotted against rpm..

The highlighted selection table at the bottom shows which parameters are selected..it gets too confusing if you have two much data on.

If you go to the website you can toggle and play with the two runs..

Subsequent analysis from my tuner confirms all is well at 400 BHP in the current configuration.

Enjoy..

As part of improving the gas flows through the engine I’ve bitten the bullet with this German Fox stainless system with lovely big collector pipes, a nice large mixer and some polished stainless cans with bazooka exhaust tips…

Will be interested to hear how it goes with no ‘quiet’ exhaust flap…. :tumbleweed:

Picture of stock 35is collector pipe for comparison..
