After doing the data logging and looking at the likely impact of IAT and size of intercooler I asked Wagner if I had could have one of their really bad boys..the Evo 3 competition version..

There’s only less than £200 difference between the Evo 2 and Evo3…so I asked Wagner UK if I could part-ex the two for the difference and they said yes!

So the big boy arrived today and as they say size does matter..

Given in the UK we don’t run ethanol mixes with their cooling attributes keeping the inlet air cool should reap bigger benefits..

Also the flow rate is much much better..

Downsides…

A bigger, heavier lump right on the nose..

Theoretically some delay due to a larger chamber to get charged…not sure on this one..

Onwards..Warp Factor 6 Mr Zulu! :tumbleweed:  :driving:

So exhaust fitted and a quick test…in part limited by a front left hand buckled wheel..but that’s another story… :tumbleweed:

Nice sound..at low revs quite baritone without being a drone..higher up like a nice brass trombone…wind noise in the cabin overpowers the exhaust note so will have to wait till others hear it…

Didn’t realise that the OE exhaust system is all in one piece from the primary cats back….a bit if cutting n shutting required..

Interesting to why BMW put such a restriction in the right hand pipe that’s only opened at times in sports mode..

Tried to take some videos for the sound…try accelerating hard with a camera in hand …

Managed to bend near side wheels in a flooded pothole…

Fortunately the wheel doctor sorted them..

Wheel doctor diagnosed both front and rear badly bent..rear worse..managed to true them out ok..

£120 for a pair

https://youtu.be/EdEM80FFWzA

Before and after …

FWIW he says biggest issue is raised speed humps going over with both wheels..places massive load on inside edge which bends because it’s unsupported… :tumbleweed:

Alloyfix in Newcastle

Horrible - I hope the second YouTube is the before. So, with that view, if we go over a speed hump with only one wheel (the other off the side or in a detent, the body weight is transferred to the lower wheel, and there's less stress to the humped one? I was always under the impression that both very slowly is better than one dealing with the bump.

I think the view is go slowly over the speed hump anyway

But it’s better to have one wheel fully in the centre raised flat part than both wheels on the angled sides… :tumbleweed:

Car packed with goodies..off tomorrow to see Mr Vanos in Darlington..after 2 years of false starts hopefully the new hybrid turbos and lots of plumbing will be fitted..

Its been a real struggle to get anyone to fit this kit..either its outside their compfort zone, they are too busy, or they only supply parts they supply etc etc..even trying to get a quotation was beyond most people..

Here's hoping..

More boost Mt Zulu..Warp 5!

If you manage to get it all done as planned, will keep an eye out for a yellow blurr heading North past Sunderland :D
