Finally, success detailing Silver Grey
Over the last year I have had a number of attempts at improving the finish on my silver grey coupe without much success. I fully decontaminated the paint starting with a thorough going over with a clay bar and then a polish with a mild cutting material before trying different protection products. I started with Bilt Hambers double speed wax that gets good reviews, well I try everything with this stuff but couldn’t get a decent result at all. I then splashed out on the new turtle wax graphene spray wax which was much better but not great with light colours.
This week I decided to try again and started over with clay bar then sorted out a few stone chips before using Auto Finesse triple polish. This gave a good result, however it is a product that can have a wax used on top of it, so decided to try Soft 99s Kiwami light wax on top. Well I am finally happy with the resulting finish. Hope someone finds this of value
Cheers.

Car looks good. I started out using Soft 99s, found it to be a really good entry-level price wax with good 6-month protection.

How did you treat stone chips? I've got a couple of pesky ones I'm eyeing up! Very much a newbie to the detailing scene. Got a lot of the gear (Xmas\birthday gifts) but no idea!

At the moment I’m just using a touch up kit from BMW. I would advise getting it from them if you want a good colour match.

Thanks. Did you just contact your local dealer for the kit?Benderloch wrote: ↑Wed Oct 06, 2021 9:56 pmAt the moment I’m just using a touch up kit from BMW. I would advise getting it from them if you want a good colour match.

Same colour as mine.
It looks really good so will give that polish a try as I was considering ceramic coating but quite like polishing my new toy.

I used Dr ColourChip for the cars, it is simply a wipe on, wipe off method and as the paint does not stick to the top layer it will only remove it from there, and not from the chip you just filled. Make a mess and with the alcohol solution you can remove it all back, really easy and fool proof.
The touch up paint from the manufacturer always made a blob or other unsightly result. Have a look at their videos, cannot be simpler to apply.
