108s ready for spring..... who else has bronze shoes?

Post by BostonJohn » Wed Oct 06, 2021 8:53 pm

Hi, I have an extra set of 108’s which I bought to get refurbished, I wanted anthracite centres and diamond edge to the outer rim. Can I ask what sort of cost do you think the wheel specialist would charge they of course would need to be split. I have a quote from Lepsons but Fareham is closer to me as I live in Worthing.

Hi John, I paid a little over £600, but then i chose the wheel specialist based on their reviews rather than price, also come with a 12 month guarantee. Based on various searches it seems you can pay anywhere from £200 and up, but i suspect you get what you pay for.
It might cost you less if you are just getting the rim diamond cut rather than powder coated and lacquered, but you should give them a call and see what they say.

I would add that i split the rims myself, wasn't as hard a job as it's made out to be. I have a long torque wrench (about 2ft long) and just took it slow, working on alternate sides, not a single bolt caused an issue. Apparently its about £3 a bolt if they need to supply them so would recommend giving it a go, even if you get 3 out of 4 apart it's going to save you some ££.
There is some good advice on here if some are stuck in, but you might be as lucky as i was!

Hi and thank you for the reply. Lepsons quoted just over £600 but they are a fair distance from Worthing and Fareham would be easier to get to. I have two sets of 108’s the ones on the car are okay but look to have been refurbished without splitting so I was thinking of having a go myself once I get the other set done. My concern would be putting them back together as I’m not sure if the bolts need to be torqued or just tightened.
The copper finish looks great but I’m not sure if I prefer it over anthracite, it’s hard to tell without seeing in the flesh.

Got a set of bronze CSL reps waiting to go on… originally intended for the white Z4, but reckon it could work very well with the dark green too 8)
Four Alfa's and a Ducati later, I've turned to the dark side...

I think they'll look better on your dark green car than they would have done with white!

Hope you post some photos once they are fitted.

May share “a few” in due course… I’ll update my Z-thread once fitted, although I’ll be switching to winter wheels first

Ooo you tease!

Don't worry if you don't - by next year I'll have forgotten anyway.

Barty I agree with Tidy, can't wait to see them on the car next spring. Also do i take it oyu have two Z4's or has the white one been sold? Either way i will add you to the list

Phippy Oh how I wish; one for the week and one for the weekends! I swapped the white auto for a green manual after 6(!) weeks of ownership  Always thought the green had something special to it, and with so few of them made I never expected to own one. So when opportunity came knocking… 8)

ha it would be the dream right! thought you might have an M in white and then the E86 in green for the day to day, but that really would be a dream eyy! I also thought white was touted as the rarest colour, but the green does look fantastic... and also bonus if it's a manual! As much as i enjoy the autobox, I do miss the sensation of shifting! :driving:

White ones are definitely rare, though not nearly as much as Tiefgrün metallic. A grand total of 2 in my spec were made, with less than 100 coming to continental Europe in the colour, regardless of spec. So when it came up…

Couldn’t fault the auto; really works a treat. But a manual just goes so well with a weekend-car for me ;)

These were my first choice of wheel, I just couldn't get them in the size/offset that I wanted. I spent many hours looking at coupes with Bronze CSLs - these will look 👌

As everyone likes a gratuitous pic: they looked good mocked up to the white coupe, I can’t wait to place them next to the green. They’re in the shop right now, might place them next to the green Z while I’m in tomorrow… 8)

they do look good against the white to be fair; just think they will look even better against the green, look forward to seeing the mock up

I just kinda wish the 108s were a bit wider at the back, i like how my current rims fill out the wheel arches and not sure i'll add spacers due to the drawbacks.
