Just bought a Z4 and can’t stop smiling

Post by Aroberts » Mon Oct 04, 2021 10:22 pm

Hey everyone.

So have been looking to buy one for some time, and found the spec that I wanted finally in Monaco Blue. It’s 2006 z4 2.5si and drives mad.

Already managed to spend some
Money as well, bought some new set of mats https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Genuine-Hit ... 35-2958-0 and zhp gear knob https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Brand-New-G ... 635-2958-0

The car is in good condition, drives well and I couldn’t find any major fault. Except some minor here and there issues.

Now, i’d love to take it for a health check and some servicing. Any advise on a descent mechanic that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg in London, or preferably around Harrow?

Fyi: i am contemplating to buy Carly eventually, but thought would rather get a proper mechanic to look at it first and pay the Carly fees to them :)

Pps: if anyone is around and has Carly, and willing to help, coffee or pint on me (although don’t have cup holders in the car so probably a pint at a local pub )

Also, found this error on an old OBD scanner but the roof works smooth as a butter. I am slightly confused :D

Any idea?

Hi and welcome to Z4 ownership.

A 2.5Si should certainly provide plenty of fun, and it seems like yours is doing just that!

A ZHP gear-knob is a definite improvement over what BMW fitted, and new mats are never a bad idea.

They aren't too local to you but I have 2 great ex-Sytner BMW/Mini specialists near me. The first is TWG Automotive in Camberley that I first used around 2015, but then Ross opened up his own business in Hook, Hants in late 2019 as RBM Hampshire and he has been fantastic. Ross is also forum member "bowser134" and is one of a few people who can relocate E85 roof motors to the boot, as well as often reviving seemingly dead ones. I know one forum member who travels from Romford to use Ross, which has to be a pretty good recommendation! And he does have a Mini run-around you can hire.

As for Carly quite a few people bought it but now they charge an annual subscription it doesn't seem so popular.

Still this thread might be useful:- viewtopic.php?f=13&t=97818
Coupes because stunning!

Great advise, will definitely reach out to Ross to book something in.

I was thinking about relocating the roof motor myself as there are a lot of handy video guides out there.

As for Carly thanks for that list, super handy to find someone local

Well in that case here is a link to Ross' business:- https://www.rbmhampshire.co.uk/

If you want to try moving the roof motor yourself then fair play to you, although it does sound like it can be painful!

I think Ross charges around £200 to relocate roof motors, but he does also fit a cover in the same carpet as the boot so it looks original.

And if you are going there he can also do any coding you want, albeit not necessarily for free or a beer!

If your car is a manual and is due a brake fluid change you might want to get the Clutch Delay Valve removed at the same time - it improves the shift quality no end, especially from 1st to 2nd.

I’ll deffo try to relocate the roof motor myself, it does look like a pain but will try to do it on a sunny weekend.

I’d rather spend that £200 to fix the front bumper as it is miss aligned. The last owner said he run over a fox and fixed it himself, but he didn’t do a great job to be honest.

Re servicing, i think brake fluid was changed recently. But will trust what Ross says :)

Hi and welcome to the forum!
Car looks great - especially as the front bumper reflectors have been colour coded! Subtle but effective.

Ps. I bought mine the start of this year and the smile hasn’t faded at all! :D

Hello and welcome to the forum, car looks great.

Not an expert, the code could be there from a previous issue that has been fixed and code not cleared
