2007 Coupe Si sport 84K £10,950

Post by Spriteracer » Sun Oct 03, 2021 5:48 pm

Update to include work to front brakes and price reduction for forum members only. I have to say I'm slightly surprised to have had no interest at all so far. What am I missing ?

With great regret I find I have to part company with my Coupe. My intention was to keep it and I have spent a fortune over the last couple of years restoring the chassis. Unfortunately I have managed to acquire a hip injury which makes getting in and out difficult so it has to go. No point in having it as an ornament ! Details and photos below. Although the car is based in West Wales, about 20 miles from Carmarthen, if distance is an issue I could meet a potential purchaser at my office in Chiswick or some other location more convenient for us both.

Very comprehensive advert and well sorted car. My only question would be, is it still on its original water pump?

Thanks for the comments, very helpful.
Re the water pump, I believe it is still original - I have not changed it and I have no record of it being changed by previous owners. I did discuss with the Independant I use - West3 in Acton, and they said they had come across very few failures. Closer to home, various relations of mine have run N52s sometimes to near 200k miles with no issues. You have to leave something for the next owner to do don't you, but I might be persuaded to throw in a pump to a purchaser from this forum if it makes a difference to closing a sale.

As a bit of further info, the ABS block does seem to be newer and there was mention of it in the MOT history. Again though I have no record of the change - I didn't get any previous paperwork when I bought the car sadly.

2007 E86 Coupe for sale.

Post by Spriteracer » Sun Oct 10, 2021 3:35 pm

Ok, so having had the car for sale on here for a week without any apparent interest other than Benderloch's helpful comment, I'm about to open it up to a wider market via Autotrader etc. I would also be grateful however for any other feedback on my original advert. I suspect distance to West Wales may be an issue for some and so for members here I would be happy to meet somewhere halfway if that assists. Needless to say I'll leave the advert on here in the meantime, and any sensible offers will get proper consideration.

Thanks in advance.

I’d get the known issues sorted OP, namely the diff. No one wants to potentially spend £10k + on a car that needs a potential diff rebuild and a few other bits like water pump etc.

GLWTS it’s looks like it could be a great car for someone I am after a coupe but I am wanting a cheaper high mileage one to daily drive.

I would second that.
It might also be mention of chasing a Vibration from the brakes,as this Is not uncommon on the e85/86 and similar E46 3 series cars using same stuff, and the brakes warping, etc can be an issue.
Better to say if it's been sorted fully or not.

Other than that,it looks a nice car,and is priced about right, although others may say it should be below 10k, I think your price isnt far off.

Glwts

Thanks for that both. Very helpful. I did say in the add that the cause of the brake vibration turned out to be a broken pad but obviously not clearly enough. The diff whine is very minor and hardly noticeable. I mentioned it only to be as honest as I can and from what I read on here there are many worse out there. However I'll look and see if I can source the stronger auto version. Re the water pump, I was prepared to knock off the cost if it was raised, however if it is putting people off maybe I'll just do it anyway.

May we venture a humble opinion from the Antipodes? I'd press on and market the car elsewhere, sometimes the forum naysayers just do not appreciate the candid honesty that some sellers offer. A small whine from the diff? Its probably the RFT tyres moreso than a problem with differential. Waterpump, again another internet myth. And easily checked with a scanner. Stick to the price asked, the value of the E86 is only going one way, up :D
Great looking car in a smashing colour.

@BTZ461 - many thanks for the supportive post. Your comment on water pumps coincides with my Indy's opinion - he see hundreds of N52s in various guises and has changed very few pumps. Closer to home there have been at least 4 in my immediate family with no failures well beyond 150k miles. The trouble with forums is that although well meant, you hear far more about the bad cases than the non-cases.... The diff whine is occasional and very minor and I would not be doing anything about it were I keeping the car. The car is also advertised elsewhere now which I hope will provoke wider interest.

@d2olf - comment as above. As you may have seen on here it is pretty common and goes on and on without causing an issue. Can I suggest you come and see for yourself if you are not too far away.
