Hi, I’ve just joined last night but have been following threads for a while on different topics. I’m after a pre facelift z4 with max 70,000 miles for up to £7,000.00. With a red interior, heated seats, in any colour other than black but like sterling grey the most. Manual gearbox and either 2.2, 2.5 or 3.0 engine. I have been looking for around 6 weeks but nothing closer than 3 to 4 hours drive away. Am I being to specific or is it the wrong time of year? Sorry should have said an e85 z4.
Now, Sterling grey Z4 2.2 with cup holders, stubby aerial and sport seats. Roadsters ‘cause they’re great with the roof down.
Ford Anglia, Red Sprite, a few MG midgets, MGB Roadster and yellow Ford Capri, all gone many years now.

Hi and welcome to the forum.

You should be able to find something to match your requirements especially as you'll consider any of the 6 cylinder engines. Hopefully one might appear in the classifieds on here, but you could always post a "Wanted" Advert.

Anyway good luck finding the right one.
Coupes because stunning!

Gone - Montego Blue
Gone - Ruby Black

Thank you, I’m still trying to find my way around the site, I’ll have a look later.

You have plenty of choice for your budget, i.e. just about every pre-facelift E85 out there. If distance is your issue, let the forum know where you are and you should get some interest.

Welcome to the forum. :)

Seems like a long way on the face of it. But It's often well worth traveling to get the right second hand car. Important to do your home work first. Perhaps you can find a forum member who would take a look, if the one you are set on is close to them. No harm asking. Happy hunting.

I tend to consider 2-3 hours away as being OK to get the “right” one! 4-5 hours is a pain though!
Given your requirements are fairly precise I think you’re going to have to accept you’ll need to travel. Just try to get as much info as possible by email.

Thank you all for your advice, this is a really friendly forum. I started going through the car ads last night but it was getting late and I’d only got to page 13! 70 more to go. I live in the Newton Abbot, Torquay area in Devon so Cornwall and Somerset would not be too far for the right car. I’m not expecting a car in showroom condition as it will be over 15 years old and I would like to be able to give it a little renovation myself. Just not falling apart or needing lots of heavy repair work doing. However as Z4’s seem to be quite well made this probably won’t be a problem.
Thanks again, :)

Is there any specific reason you want a pre-facelift?
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

F31 320i. Good car.

Z3 'free litre'. Project and a half. Complicated!
Mazda3 sold

Your expectations all sound good! I'd also agree that fortunately Z4's seem to be pretty solid. So its then a question of working through the known issues and hoping to find one thats had evrything done!
However I think you are going to have to make a decision on the engine size otherwise you are going to continue to have waaaay too many "possibles"!!
If you can find something you like on here then that should mean its had an owner who is reasonably enthusiastic, and you can check their post history to get a good idea of any issues etc.
I feel your pain though, even having narrowed my search down to 3.0 only (having started looking at 2.5's) all the ones I was interested in were always the other end of the country!
Hope that helps!

A bit like the one that you linked to in Scotland which is just a mere 930 mile round trip :D

Yes I’m worried that the engine has more to go wrong and I don’t like the idea of no dipstick.

There is a nice 2.2 in Glasgow, too far though.
