Antibodies

Post by ronk » Sat Oct 02, 2021 2:49 pm

I hesitate to ask the question and ask that it doesn’t become jab or no jab post

I take part in the Covidence academic study and have just received my blood test results from them.

After being double jabbed (Astra Zeneca) in April I was given an antibody blood test by the Covidence Study organisation in July - they have just reported a Negative Antibody result

Question :- Am I protected?

There are some medics on the forum I seem to remember?

This is from the Scottish NHS COVID pages, but that's just because it came up first in the search

A negative antibody test after you’ve had your vaccine does not necessarily mean you have no protection from serious illness. Protection from the vaccine is complex. It does not only depend on detecting antibodies. You do not need to take any action if you have a negative antibody test after vaccination.

I always thought, rightly or wrongly, that you get anti bodies as a result of contracting the virus. As the vaccine does not actually give you a dose of Covid as with some vaccines the body will not produce antibodies. The body may also produce t cells which also and in most cases attack the virus more efficiently than antibodies.

Like you hope to get my booster later this month but hope it will be the Moderna rather than the German Pfizer. Don't want to find myself getting up early on holiday putting towels on sunbeds

Yeah but you would become so much more efficient and organised in everything you do. You will lose any sense of humour, though. Swings and roundabouts
All good things come to those who wait. I'm really impatient which explains a lot.

I believe this is the same test my wife had a few weeks ago. She asked the question and was told that they are only looking for the antibodies that are a result of having had the virus. With the caveat that if you had the virus more that 6 months ago they may not show up.

The question was prompted by the result I got v my wife’s result.
I was Neg and she was Pos - we both had the same jab at the same time an neither of is have have lived life carefully and had no hint of covid symptoms and have lived life in close proximity.
