Panic buying fuel again
A classic this morning. The petrol station clearly has no fuel - entry to petrol bays taped off and each trigger has "out of service" on it. A lady drives around all of the pumps and reverses into bay to beat that pesky tape. Then pulls out the trigger and put into car. Then looks amazed that no fuel is being pumped!
I was hoping that the pump would vacuum up whatever fuel she had already. Would have made the world a safer place!

I am not desperate yet but every garage between my place to Burgess Hill was closed, but when I do need it I will go in the middle of the night if Tesco has something that is

I am supposed to be going up to Sudbury and then to the IVM at Duxford next week but down here on the south coast none of the petrol stations have any diesel, currently have just under half a tank so doubt ifI will risk going which is a shame and will cost me per paid hotel and tickets.

Chunnel, as my passenger gets sea sick - especially if I fart in the car just before we get on a ferryronk wrote: ↑Sun Oct 03, 2021 5:27 pmThro the tunnel or by sea?mmm-five wrote: ↑Sun Oct 03, 2021 5:14 pm No queues or closed garages here - although most have implemented a £30 or £35 limit.
I'm off to Germany on Monday, so thought I'd take advantage to fill up in the north-west (£29.45). Should get me all the way to Germany before I need to buy any more

I ask as I will be off to Germany in the springtime. Travelling to Hanover area.
Will be near Cologne on Tuesday to pick up some pre-ordered parts (one of his colleagues from his Nurburgring chassis development years with Aston Martin is holding them for him), then down to Trier for a casual 2 days of weißen and schnitzel/wurst (and maybe take in some of the roads between there and Munich), then up to the Nurburgring to watch some racing…before heading home on Sunday.
The 320D should easily return 600 miles to a tank, even with a fat passenger and 4 empty crates of Benediktiner, and 2 track wheels/tyres for another mate in Germany…then there should be no issues filling up a couple of time over there before doing the return trip.
Had to do a declaration for the French to say we were double-vaccinated, and we’re taking our certificates and digital passports with us, along with some rapid flow tests for quick checking if required, but the local supermarkets in Germany off a while you wait service too.
Needed a “green card” (it’s not, but that’s what the insurance company insisted on calling it) to confirm my fully comprehensive insurance for driving in the EU, as the basic insurance is back to 3rd part only (which is what the green card is to prove).

Interesting re the green card. I originally had one after brexit but when my insurance renewed (Admiral) they stated they don’t issue them anymore

Went over the Shell garage this morning to see how much the V Power was, £1.55, anyone seen higher (not including the services)?

That was part of the miscommunication issue on my insurers part too
They kept saying I didn’t need one to drive in Europe, but I’d only have 3rd party cover unless I paid an extra premium for the ‘European Extension’ and they’d provide a letter confirming it in multiple languages, which I pointed out is exactly what I had been asking about for the last 20 minutes - which they then decided to refer to as a ‘green card’
It was a change made on renewal that wasn’t made clear at all…as my previous policy was Europe-wide fully comp.
…and I now have to call them before every trip and pay a premium and admin fee each time as they don’t currently allow you to do it online
Edit: although reading my paperwork makes it even more confusing, as the Welsh admin lady specifically said I'd need to do this for each and every trip, but the paperwork says I'm covered from September 2021 (with no end date)

I always specify European cover - although the extra cost these last two summers has been money down the U Bend.

Profiteering!
£1.55 sounds bad enough but sounds even worse when it’s £7.04 a gallon!

Panic buying fuel again
Filled up for the first time in a month this morning around 10am, at my usual Esso station in the centre of Stafford. Forecourt was empty and at first thought it was closed for fuel then noticed only unleaded pumps were operational. No diesel or premium fuels. Also my Esso App wasn't working and it said to pay at the till, assuming the App has been disabled for the time being to stop you buying too much fuel maybe
Surprised so many pumps still out of action.
Tim.
