Hey Jamie, looking at getting some similar tips myself. Just to check, did you go for 63mm in, 76mm out?
Cheers!

Exhaust tips

This is a revelation!! I assumed the tips were a permanent part of the exhaust and to replace would need a new back box. I’ve tried polishing our 23i tips but they haven’t gleamed as I’d have liked so will look to replace. Will give a good at ‘persuading’ them off… like the polished look but also taken by those carbon-esque ones too (will also hold on to originals, once off they may polish up better 🤷🏻

Be careful... buy local not direct from China, so you can return if necessary
I measured the exhaust at 61mm, so I ordered the closest size which I thought would work, 63mm inlet, 76mm outside.
On Aliexpress I found these: various sizes available, so I did indeed order 63/76mm

Shipping painfully slow, but they finally arrived, and at first glance look pretty good, until........ da fuq?

Check the measurements I thought, indeed the inlet was 63mm, BUT... the bloody things won't go on as there is an internal step in the bore.
The stupid thing is that either side of that step, the bore is 63mm or 61mm towards the outlet. Absolutely dumb design, make sure the internal bore is the same along the length of the part before you buy.

Can't be arsed to return them, I'll redesign and reconstruct using the materials, so not a complete waste.
By the way, I was able to twist the original tips of by hand, eat an extra weetabix

Exhaust tips

I pulled one of the tips out on the 23i back in November.
It wasn't difficult, just came off by hand with a firm pull.

Those edges are a bit of a problem to get into.
I need to pull them both out and use the dremel on them.

I took mine to a local metal polishers, worth salvaging. Ive got a cheap set on at present, £20 off amazon, easy to pull off and clean up with metal polish

Exhaust tips

Well I still have my originals to clean up and reuse if necessary.
Anyhoo, I took the new units to the bat cave and attacked them for a few hours. First I figured out the internal diameter feck up from the manufacturer. Basically the inlet is 63mm as required, and the inner diameter at the output end is about 61mm, as it happens a perfect fit for the exhaust pipe. Unfortunately this is made up of 2 separate tubes and at the join in the middle is 48mm, which is a bit dumb.
So I separated the tubes to achieve a 61/63mm diameter the length of the part.

Then of course I found my schoolboy error, my 20i has the exhaust flap mechanism so the length of the muffler tip is limited. More cutting/grinding/filing and riveting and I got to this:

They do protrude a little further than original and I probably have room for some further improvement, but I like the carbon theme so not a complete waste.

I could always slide the carbon tubes over the BMW tips and use JB weld.... nah, too easy and tacky
