I've realised I'm getting old...what to do (regarding cars)?
A few months ago I posted a thread regarding buying a V8 powered car, as I've always wanted something with 8 pots.
Well after much deliberation and discussion, my head won out and I bought a Ford Focus (yes, yes I know) estate.
It is the 2019 Mk4 2.3 ecoboost ST. After four months and 600 miles I've come to the conclusion it's not for me (well not for the mid-fifties me, maybe the mid-thrities me). It is a brilliant car. For the money I would doubt you would get anything that comes close for handling, excitement and equipment. I am just too old for it, simple as that. I get kids in their Fiesta STs flashing me and waving
So I am going to sell it and want a different car that I do like and is heart over head, not the other way round for a change.
I have a budget of no more than £30k.
I am asking for suggestions, based on the following criteria:
4 seater convertible (possibly coupes but prefer a vert). I have a 2 seater already (the E89 which has to stay)
6 cylinders with a blower (300bhp ish min)
Pretty looking car (subjective I know but the ST is fugly)
Makes the right noise (not chavvy loud but so I can hear it as I'd rather listen to the engine/induction than the radio. See told you I'm getting old)
Not more than 8 years old (I have an issue with mileage so it must be fairly modern).
I would be interested in other's thoughts on what you would buy in my situation.
Cheers, Les

I would suggest the Lotus Esprit from the Spy who Loved Me due to its underwater capabilities seeing where you live.

That does look nice, I had an itch for something like this before I bought the Zed

Think I'd be more up for the 6 thesedays though

What sort of price tag would have been on it when new? £70k?

Great shout Mr N
I did look at the 6 series a while back (I looked at every ferking car in the UK) and do like the facelift version. It certainly ticks all my boxes; not a point to point racing car, it is a V8 (running costs are a concern admittedly and they are only going to get more), it is classy and it has four good seats.
I keep going back to an S5 cab or a Merc E400 cab, but the 6 is a better choice against the MB

Sorry Steve, I can't hear you from on top of that Norfolk mountain
Ironically I have lived most of my life on top of a mountain; well the Chilterns anyway

Is the later S5 not a 3 litre straight 6?Pondrew wrote: ↑Tue Aug 17, 2021 9:39 pmGreat shout Mr N

Think you'd need the RS5 to make it tick the V8 box

Sorry but Jags are not my thing. My sister bought an XKR once and it spent more time on a transporter than on the road.

I had sort of given up with the V8 idea, due to running costs and the fact that these are going to only get more.
I don't really want the power, just the noise
The 650 has piqued my interest though.
